Imamzadeh Mausoleum is located about 7 kilometers north of Ganja and it is one of Azerbaijan鈥檚 most significant religious sites. The Mausoleum was built in many different stages beginning from the 8th century just above the grave of the son to the 5th Shiite Imam known as Muhammed al-Baqir.

The structure also contains small mosques, funerary monuments as well as walls with entrances.  Over the years the grave developed to become a mausoleum and later on, a magnificent complex.

1. Mohammad al-Baqir is Considered the most Scared Personality in the Mausoleum

The inscriptions that are found in the interior of the complex, show that Muhammad was the most scared of Shiite Islam. His sons escaped from the motherland and moved to Azerbaijan to escape persecution from the ruling circles.

The Islam prophets were under great persecution and after they went to Ganja; they were killed by their enemies. The two Imams killed were buried and a mausoleum was erected over their graves.

2. Imamzadeh Mausoleum Under Went First Major Restoration in 15th and 16th Century

Since it鈥檚 begun its construction in the 8th century the structure underwent several destructions. The major restoration of the complex took place between the 15th and the 16th century and was a result of the strengthening of the Shiite.

The complex was particularly given special attention through the incorporation of religious attributes as well as new craftsmanship.

The book contains a lot of information concerning the history of the ancient monument bin Ganja. However, he had recorded a different century from when the monument was established since he had not seen the inscriptions on the Mausoleum.
