Muhammad Mosque is also known as Siniggala Mosque and it was built during the 11th century in the spectacular old city of Baku. The most magnificent thing about Muhammad Mosque is its unique architecture.

It also contains some Arabic inscriptions just above the front door of the northern wall of the mosque. The mosque was the first building to be constructed in entire Azerbaijan and it is a symbol of persistence as well as the courage of the defendant of the tower.

Juma Mosque is located in Shamakhi in Azerbaijan and it is the greatest landmark in the area. It is also considered the largest as well as the most lavished place of worship in the entire of Azerbaijan.

The structure was first constructed in 743AD but later reconstructed in 2013 which makes it the oldest in Azerbaijan as well as the second oldest mosque in the entire Caucasus. Apart from its religious significance, you can also enjoy basking in the site.

3. Bibi-Heybat Mosque

Bibi-Heybat Mosque is one of the historic structures that is located in Baku, Azerbaijan. While the existing structure was constructed in the 1990s, it is a replica of the mosque built in the 13th century.

The previous mosque was however destroyed in 1936 by the Bolsheviks. The structure is currently a major spiritual center for Muslim residents in the region.

The mosque is locally known as 鈥渢he mosque of Fatima鈥 which was the name given by Alexandre Dumas as he described the mosque in the 1840s.

4. Mir Movsum Aga Mosque

Although the complex serves currently as the temple complex, it is the location where Mir Movsumzade鈥檚 tomb is situated. He had a very good reputation when he lived and he was popularly known for his kindness, truth, and his spiritual strength.

Despite the prohibitions from the soviet regime, he was buried by huge crowds and always remembered. A small mausoleum was built on the tomb as well as a spectacular monument elected above the tomb. The rich history of the mosque makes it very unique in Azerbaijan.

5. Heydar Mosque

Heydar Mosque is the most magnificent building in Baku that covers a total area of 12,000 square meters. The internal part of the building covers an area of 4,200 square meters.

The mosque is beautifully decorated with unique stones based on the Shirvan 鈥 Absheron architectural style. The first dome of the mosque has a height of 55metres while the second has a height of 35metres.

The mosque also has one of the most spectacular views especially during night due to the dazzling lights.

6. Taza Pir Mosque

Taza Pir Mosque began to be constructed in 1905 and was completed in 1914 in the old historic city of Baku. The main idea behind the construction of the mosque as well as its financing was to be provided by an Azeri female Philanthropist called Nabat Khanum.

The sanctuary鈥檚 history dates back many centuries ago when it first existed as a tomb.

The construction that began in the 20th century was founded by foreman Karbalai Ahmed but later completed by architect Zivar bey Ahmadbay.

7. Palatial Mosque

The palatial mosque dates back to the 15th century. It is included in Shirvanshah鈥檚 palace complex in the old city of Baku.

The plan of the mosque is rectangular in shape and also includes a small prayer room that is dedicated to women and serving rooms.

The mosque has a very special design as the interior contains two-tier windowed prayer rooms which have been sealed with spherical sails.

8. The Mosque of the Martyrs

The popular Mosque of the Martyrs that is commonly known as the Turkish Mosque is located in Baku, Azerbaijan just near Martyrs Lane.

The mosque was constructed at the beginning of the 1990s, with the help of the Turkish government. The mosque has however been under reconstruction since 2009. It has also been the residence of the religious attach茅 of the embassy of Turkey.

9. Murtuza Mukhtarov Mosque

Murtuza Mukhtarov Mosque began its constuction in 1901, a project that was initiated by the residents. However, due to a lack of enough materials to complete the building, the construction was suspended.

The residents later asked for help from Murtuza Mukhtarov who hired competent architects and the construction resumed after 8 years.

Between 1985 and 1989 the structure was used for the exhibition of works but since 1989 the building has functioned as a mosque.

10. Haji Javad Mosque

Haji Javad Mosque is located in Baku, Azerbaijan in the Jasamali area and it was built in 1305 according to the Muslim calendar. Haji Javad was the great merchant who was responsible the for initiation of the mosque building.

During the Soviet era, the mosque was converted into living areas and a kindergarten. The presidential decree was that the mosque would be demolished and a new one constructed on Abbas Mirza Sharifzade Street.
