Francis Zavier Ngannou is one of the most successful Cameroonian mixed martial artists. At thirty-six (36), he has secured several awards in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Many astonishing facts about this artist make him great in the world. The list below shows the top ten amazing facts about Ngannou.

1. Francis Ngannou had a tough upbringing

Ngannou had a very difficult childhood. He was born in 1986 in Bati茅, Cameroon. Growing up in this village was difficult. His parents were low-income earners, which denied him the opportunity to attend school.

Before he was six, his parents divorced, forcing him into his aunt鈥檚 home. This was a tough time for Ngannou. He never attended school, denying him the skills to secure a job in the future.

2. He started working in a sand quarry at the age of 10

His parents鈥 divorce made it difficult to get basic needs under his guardian. Life was difficult at this point, and something had to be done. He had to secure a job when he was ten to make ends meet.

At the time, he only managed to secure a job at a sand quarry. It was a difficult job, but there was nothing else he could do given his age and education level.

3. Francis Ngannou started living an honest and truthful life at a young age

Despite the life challenges, Ngannou was always honest with himself. He wanted to earn an honest living through proper channels.

He rejected the offers extended to him by several village gangs. For most youths, poverty is a motivating factor to join robbery groups to earn money the easy way. However, this was not the case for Francis.

He was among the few youths who rarely get influenced by peer pressure. He believed he had a purpose in life that he must pursue. Joining gangs and drug abuse among young people are often driven by peer pressure.

4. He is a risk-taker as much as his career is concerned

At 26, Ngannou moved to France, where he did not know anyone, to pursue his boxing career. He did not have a place to sleep or anything to eat.

He was made to stay behind bars for two months in Spain for illegally crossing the border. Upon arriving in Paris, the situation worsened.

There was no relative or friend to host him. He had to live in the streets. Moving from his mother country was a risky venture.

5. Francis Ngannou did not pursue his childhood dream career

Being a fan of Mike Tyson, Ngannou’s dream was to become a professional boxer. However, he ended up being an MMA and a UFC artist.

After spending nights and days in the streets of Paris, Francis got a friend who introduced him to Fernand Lopez, a former MMA artist, and coach from Cameroon. 

Lopez saw that Ngannou was the best fit in MMA more than boxing. He encouraged him and gave him the gear to pursue his career. Lopez even allowed Ngannou to train and sleep at his gym place for free. This was the start of his career.

6. He was homeless at some point

Being homeless in life is one of the worst experiences in life. Despite being poor and unable to put food on the table, lacking a place to sleep is a painful experience. Upon arriving in Paris, Ngannou was forced to live on the streets.

He had nowhere to go or no one for him. The pain of the cold weather during the nights, hunger, and lack of money denied him happiness. It was one of the worst experiences in his life. Francis had to wait until his luck came.

7. He was featured in the Fast and Furious 9

In 2021, Ngannou was featured as Homme de Jakob in the F9. He played the role of a soldier in this film. He is given the role of ensuring Elle is safely transferred.

Despite his small role in the film, it was a great turn in his career, performing under one of the best television productions of the century with great producers and actors like Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, John Cena, and Tyrese Gibson.

8. Francis Ngannou opened the first MMA Gym in Cameroon

Having gone through a tough upbringing, Ngannou wants to give the youths a chance to be better people. He wants to see a smile on the faces of children in his home country and help them enter the MMA and UFC competitions to change their lives.

As a child, he had to engage in arduous jobs comprised of hard labor. This is an experience that Ngannou does not want to see any children or youths in Cameroon go through. The gym allows children who dream of becoming participants in the sport.

9. He is the first Cameroon-born UFC champion

Francis is the first Cameroon-born UFC champion in history. This has motivated many youths in the country that anything is possible if dedication and hard work are employed.

Ngannou has won the UFC Heavyweight Championship once and worn the Performance of the Night six times against powerful contenders like Curtis Blaydes, Anthony Hamilton, and Stipe Miocic. His reputation has grown across the world and made him rich. Currently, his net worth is estimated to be $5 million.

10. Francis Ngannou has never lost by a knockout or by submission

As of 2022 January, Ngannou had participated in twenty (20) matches and won seventeen (17). He won twelve by knockout, four by submission, and one by decision. All the three losses are by decision.

When on the pitch, Ngannou respects his opponent but is always determined to win the competition. He has learned and adopted a combination of great skills that make him outstanding in the UFC world.
