Russell Peters, of South-Asian descent, growing up in Canada and now living in the USA,  is also known as Russell Dominic Peters. He  is many things to many people. He is celebrated as the first  Asian comedian to get a Netflix stand-up special.

He is regarded as one of the most successful and highest-paid comedians. Between June 2009 and June 2010, Forbes estimated his earnings to be around $15 million and by 2013 he was ranked as the third highest-paid comedian.

He was the first comedian to sell out of Toronto鈥檚 Air Canada Centre in 2007. In 2010 he also performed in one of the largest audiences in Australia for a standup comedy show.

1. An Ango-Asian Descent, Born In Canada Before Moving To United States

Russell Peters an Anglo-Indian descent, was born in Toronto, Canada on 29th September 1970. His parents are Eric Peters, a federal meat inspector, and Maureen Peters.

His family shifted to Brampton when he was four years old. He has an older brother named Clayton Peters who is his manager. He studied at Chinguacousy Secondary School and the North Peel Secondary School.

Unfortunately, he faced extreme bullying in his childhood due to his ethnicity, race, and color. This forced him to learn boxing to counter the bullying, thus, forming the base of his comedy later on in life.

Before marrying Monica Diaz in August 2010, he had dated Bollywood actress Sunny Leone in 2008. However, he divorced his wife in 2012 and is currently engaged to Ruzanna Khetchian. Russell Peters has a daughter named Crystianna Marie Peters.

2. Russell was Inspired by Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy At A Young Age

Russell Peters started his career at a young age in 1989 performing comedy shows in Toronto. He got his inspiration from George Carlin, Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy, and Don Rickles. Eddy Murphy and Steve Martin played a key role in shaping who Russell would turn out to be later on in his life.

As he was shaping his career later on after the exit of Eddy Murphy and Steve Martin came in George Carlin. He advised him to use the stage as much as possible which contributed to his success. He also had the privilege of hosting one of the last shows of Carlin who died in 2008.

3. He Has Performed Comedy in Many Television Shows 

Peters appeared on CBC鈥檚 comedy show 鈥楥omics!鈥 which drew much popularity as well as criticism he was still nominated for a 鈥楪emini Award鈥 for his performance.

In 2004, he performed in the Canadian TV show 鈥楥omedy Now!鈥 The entire show and several of its separate segments were uploaded onto YouTube, where they instantly went viral marking his career graph upwards.

He performed at the largest stand-up comedy show in Australia ever on 15th May 2010 in front of 13,880 people. He also performed in front of a record number of crowds at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on the 5th and 6th of May in 2012.

In 1997 during the Gemini Awards, his Comic work was nominated in the category of Best Performance in a Comedy Program series. Moving on between 2003 and 2004 during the Canadian Comedy Award, Russell Peters was nominated for the Best Male Stand-up.

In the same year 2004, his comedy Now鈥 was nominated f the Best Individual Performance in a Comedy Program or Series during the Gemini Award. In 2013 during the Association of South Asians in Media, Marketing and Entertainment, he won the Trailblazer Award.

7. Russell Peters Established The Russell Peters North Peel Scholarship As Part Of Philanthropy

One of his notable contributions is the establishment of the Russell Peters North Peel Scholarship in 2010, an award worth up to CA$21,000 and intended to finance up to three years of college. It is an annual award to a student from Judith Nyman Secondary School (formerly North Peel) with a strong academic record and desire to attend college.

Though raised by his Catholic parents Eric and Maureen, he is not known to be a fan of any organized religion. One time while being interviewed by Larry King he said, 鈥淚 don鈥檛 talk about religion because I think people are a little weird about religion, especially nowadays, and am more of a science guy than I am a beliefs guy. I am more into facts than I am beliefs鈥.
