Jonah Hill and Kenya Barris must have thought they were tackling an overlooked cultural issue and doing it with a fresh twist but alas and alack, this is not the case.

This is a story that has been around forever and this attempt brings nothing new to the dialogue. Yes, the script/storyline has some clever moments but it was definitely yeoman service on the part of Jonah Hill, Lauren London, Eddie Murphy and Julia Louis-Dreyfus to bring this forward into what becomes a quasi-interesting and somewhat charming movie.

There are some highlights, albeit very brief – the parent’s meeting dinner party comes to mind. For the life of me, I cannot fathom why Rhea Perlman, Ellio Gould, Hal Linden and Richard Benjamin to name a few joined the cast if it were not for the money as they added absolutely Nothing, and I do mean Nothing with a capital N.

And I shall not dwell on the non-character created (who am I kidding?) by David Duchovny. Can we say wake up and at least phone it in? The final term that comes to mind is serviceable.
