The new National Geographic series, “A Small Light,” is heart-wrenching and heartwarming at the same time and is brilliant.

Heart-wrenching because of the unfathomable atrocities of Shoah that it shines a brilliant light on and heartwarming because it so poignantly addresses this very dark chapter in history that must never be forgotten.

This is the true story of the bravery and resolve it took to hide Anne Frank’s family during the Nazi occupation of The Netherlands during WWII.

Writers Joan Rater and Tony Phelan have created a superbly brilliant and compelling script that allows Liev Schreiber and Bel Powley to shine as they create their roles as Otto Frank (Anne Frank’s father) and Miep Gies, the Dutch woman who stood up for what is right as she helped hide the Frank family and others from the Nazi atrocities in Amsterdam.

As National Geograp[hic noted, this is a story that is told with a modern sensibility and shakes the cobwebs off history, and makes Miep’s story feel relevant, forcing us to ask ourselves what we would have done in Miep’s shoes; and in modern times, asking if we have the courage to stand up to hatred.

Please do not miss this. It is deserving of having the spotlight.
