From Bryan Cranston’s subtly nuanced performance as the host/narrator to Tom Hanks’s grumpy old patriarch, this movie is rife with so many cameos by Hollywood A-Listers that I am reminded of Ward Bond who appeared in almost every movie ever made.A few of the standout performances in these almost cameo appearances are Tilda Swinton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber and Hope Davis. An easy-to-miss surprise is Rita Wilson. Don’t blink or you will miss her. Scarlett Johansson and Jason Schwartzman ably anchor the cast along with the always surprising Ed Norton.
IMHO, this is somewhat reminiscent of The Truman Show in its visual production elements. The plot, if you could call it a plot, is a rollercoaster of a myriad of intertwined storylines that do not always knit together. This is not going to be an award-winning picture but is a fun romp of suspension of belief.
Sit back and enjoy the ride, albeit not everyone’s cup of tea!
