I admit it. I was suckered into watching the new documentary that touted it included access to her vast archives and never before seen footage discovered in her basement after her passing.

Maybe it should have remained lost for the ages? As charming as some of the footage was (the new foal or maybe the bridal shower, although that footage seemed more like a staged car crash), it certainly did not reveal anything of import or great interest. No revealing unknown facts or figures, or persons of interest revealed.

IMHO the entire 2 hours was akin to having to sit through your Great Uncle Elmer’s slide show of his recent road trip to Podunk while your Aunt Bertha commented on how delicious the casserole at the local church potluck was for the umpteenth time.

Stab my eyes out! No deep dive into any of the nuances of her 3 marriages or her son and stepchildren. Yes, there were the obligatory clips of Mary and her son and a few scant bits of dialogue regarding his relationship with his mother (what 5-year-old does not miss their mother when she is away working?) but only a fleeting mention of his “mysterious/accidental” death by gun (remember it has long been rumored about his drug dependency and presumed suicide.)

Available on HBO Max but don’t pay for it. Unfortunately, this was simply a flip through the pages of the scrapbook of her life that we already knew. You probably gleaned more information from reading People Magazine.
