George Clooney’s direction of Daniel James Brown’s novel, Boys in the Boat delivers an impassioned view of the journey leading to the quest for gold at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.

The film focuses on the yeoman service of the University of Washinton’s men’s rowing team ably portrayed by a vast number of actors who most people will not recognize. The anonymity, or lack of celebrity of these actors, adds volumes to the audiences embracing their performances and being deeply engaged in rooting for the underdog. Of all the unknowns, I must call out Callum Turner for his stunning portrayal of the oft-depressed and problematic Joe Rantz. I believe he is one to watch.

Is this totally historically accurate? No clue as I was not invited to the 1936 Olympics! LOL If you likes Chariots of Fire, this film, albeit “on the water” is for you.
