OMG could Martin Scorcese get himself an editor? And I am asking politely. Three hours and 26 minutes to tell this primary story of greed, corruption and betrayal is, IMHO, 30-45 minutes too long. True, there are numerous subplots, but really Martin? Your viewing audience is not dense. Once you have established a fact, let’s move on and not continue to drill that into our psyche!

Overall this movie is on the verge of being wonderful as it is as close to the truth of history as is humanly possible given all our subliminal biases and prejudicial lense through which we view history. Leading the cast are three absolutely Oscar nomination worthy performances by DiCaprio, De Niro and the wonderful newcomer to the vast majority, Lily Gladstone. Of the three. Gladstone delivers the most poignant and beautifully crafted performance embodying an incredible wide range of emotions through her exquisitely restrained use of voice, gestures and facial expression. Di Caprio is intriguing in how he approached and delivered the character of the not too bright ‘white man’ trying to gain control of his wife’s legacy. De Niro is the penultimate smarmy, greedy, lying con man that we love and hate depending on where in the roller coaster ride we are.

The vast supporting cast members deliver on all levels. Outstanding in almost cameo roles brilliantly delivered by none other than the likes of Jesse Plemons, John Lithgow, Tantoo Cardinal and surprise, surprise, Brendan Fraser.

4 stars and maybe 4.5 if it were 45 minutes pared down. Don’t delay, see it before the Oscar broadcast so you can make up your own mind if it is deserving of any Oscars.
