1. Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen

This is the most popular recreation space in Copenhagen. It was first opened in 1843 and has inspired modern parks like Disney theme parks.

You will find several fun activities to take part in like riding the roller coasters, attend puppet shows, dine at fine restaurants and cafés, and stroll through Moorish-designed concert halls.

There are fireworks display at night during summer while in winter, the park is illuminated by beautiful lights.

The night scene of this park is stunning. The multicoloured lights make it seem like a fairy-tale scene.  

2. Helsingor, Capital Region

This city is located on the eastern side of Denmark. It is a well-maintained medieval town with charming and narrow streets.  

The Kronborg Slot is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its architecture style is from the Renaissance period. It was quoted by Shakespeare in Hamlet.

There is also the Maritime Museum of Denmark that exhibits 600 years of Danish seafaring history.

3. Roskilde Cathedral, Roskilde

Roskilde is located west of Copenhagen. At the centre of this city is this Gothic, twin-spired Roskilde Cathedral.

It is also where the tombs of many Danish kings and queens are found. It’s also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The cathedral has had several renovations done to allow more tombs for the monarchs. These added chapels display different architectural styles like Romanesque and Gothic.  

This Cathedral demonstrates more than 800 years of European architectural designs. It was the first Gothic brick-built cathedral, this style soon spread to other regions in Europe.  

4. The Little Mermaid, Copenhagen

This sculpture was inspired by the fairy tale of Dane Hans Christian Andersen. It sits on a rock in Copenhagen Harbor looking ashore.

The sculpture was made by Edvard Eriksen and modelled by Eline Eriksen.  

The Little Mermaid has since become a national landmark and city icon.

There are several copies of the Little Mermaid in the city as well as abroad.   

5. The Farøe Islands

These Islands are located about 600 kilometres west of the Norwegian coast. It is an archipelago of 18 remote islands characterised by rocky coastline, meadows and fjords.

There are different marine animals in this region such as seals, whales and fishes. It is a perfect place for fishing and birdwatching.

This island hosts several music festivals during the summer. The other attractions on this island include the history museum and the Christian’s Church.

6. Den Blå Planet National Aquarium, Kastrup

This next attraction is a must-see, especially for the young ones. You will get to see marine animals going about their day unbothered.

It is the largest and modern aquarium in Europe with 7 million litres of water.

The aquarium is made up of 5 different sections that are homes to different marine species and habitats. Its crown jewel is the Ocean Tank.

A visit here is both fun and educational.

7. RÃ¥bjerg Mile

This is another landmark worth seeing while in Denmark. It is a migrating coastal dune stretching for about 2 kilometres and is 40 metres tall.

The wind moves it to the north-eastern direction up to 18 metres a year. Over 250,000 people visit the dune every year.

There is a sand-covered church that was built in the 14th century. It was dedicated to Saint Lawrence of Rome. By the 18th century, the church was completely covered in sand and was abandoned.

The only visible part of the church is the tower. The main building of the church was demolished.   

8. Historic lighthouse, Lokken

After visiting the RÃ¥bjerg Mile, the next landmark that is popular is the Lighthouse. This lighthouse is almost covered by sand blown by the northern winds.

The landscape around this lighthouse is everchanging and each year is different. At least 5 feet of the coastal land gets eroded each year.

This lighthouse ceased to function in 1968 but is today serving as a museum and a coffee shop.

9. New Harbour, Copenhagen

The New Harbour is one of the best places to experience the gastronomic culture of Copenhagen.

This area was once a neglected wasteland that was rehabilitated to a vibrant scene filled with contemporary cafés, ships and colourful houses.

During spring and summer, this place is always a buzz with people filling the restaurants, cafes and bars, hot dog stands and ice cream shops.

Bring your own snacks and drinks too and enjoy them on the wooden pier as you people watch.

10. Rosenborg Castle, København

This castle belonged to King Christian IV. It was his favourite project since he had a great passion for architecture.

Construction work began in 1606 and was completed in 1634. Its style is that from the Dutch renaissance period.

The King used this castle as his country residence. After the king died in 1648, the castle was turned into a museum that was opened to the public.

Among the royal collection found in the castle are Danish Crown jewels and regalia.
