Although a German international living in England, it was up to Musiala which youth squads he played for. He opted for representing the three lions’ youths. This was because he felt more comfortable playing with English players who he was acquainted with.

In 2020, he was called up to the England under-21 squad for the 2021 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualification matches. He made his U21 international debut against Andorra under-21s and scored his first against Albania in November 2020.

Jamal Musiala has ties with three countries. His father is a Nigerian international which means that he was eligible to play for Nigeria’s international team.

However, a German by birth, Musiala was also eligible to play for the German Machine (Germany’s international team). Which is the decision he made to the disappointment of many Nigerian and England football fans.

Die Mannschaft is the nickname often used to refer to the German national soccer team. It translates to ‘The Team’.  After opting to play for England’s youth squad, the German FA seemed to cool their interest in getting Musiala to play for them but this was not the case.

His move to Bayern provided the perfect opportunity for them to get his services which they certainly did. On February 24th, 2021, Musiala announced he would be representing his birth nation internationally.

In March 2021, Musiala got what can only be assumed as the first of many international call-ups for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He made his international debut on 25th March 2021 against Iceland off the bench.

In June 2021, he became Germany’s youngest player in a major tournament (UEFA Euro 2020) at 18 years and 117 days.

There are more experienced German players in the German Squad. However, Musiala has more than proved he can mix it up with the best of them at the biggest of stages.

What bigger stage is there other than the World Cup. Having become a regular name in recent Die Mannschaft match-day squads, Musiala will surely be at the World Cup finals.

He will play alongside the experienced Thomas Muller and Manuel Neuer who are German footballing legends at this point. Looking at the German team, with the likes of Leroy Sane and Gnabry (also teammates of his’) the German team will surely have a good time in Qatar.

However, football is not always kind and only time will tell what the World Cup has in stall for Musiala and Germany.

10. Prolific Playmaker and Goal Scorer

When his coaches and teammates are asked about him, they all seem to talk about the same thing. His immense potential and technical qualities.

While he may be referred to as ‘one for the future, Musiala is a star NOW! The 2022/23 season especially seems to have started exceptionally well for him. In the modern game, statistics seem to have taken over and Musiala’s are a beauty to look at.

In the Bundesliga, Musiala has made eight appearances so far scoring 5 and assisting 4. He has 2 assists in the champions leagues so far in three appearances.

These are numbers some can only hope to achieve at the height of their careers. Coupled with some astonishing off-field performances, it is easy to see what all the fuss on Musiala is. He is the closest thing in the modern game to a traditional number 10 like Ozil, Iniesta, and De Bryne.

11. Champions League Winner

Did I mention Musiala is a Champions League winner already? Musiala was part of the Bayern Squad that won the 2019–20 UEFA Champions League.

However, Musiala did not make any appearance throughout the campaign despite being named in multiple squads.
