We probably know him from the Shrek films where he was first introduced as villain before becoming companions with Shrek who ended up being one of his trusted and protective friends. The Shrek movie fascinated the audience that it made the cat to star in his own fairytale movie: Puss in Boots which was released in 2011. It showcases how Puss in Boots is a charming and aggressive cat. Puss in Boots also has his own spin-off series which was released in January 2015 and ended in January 2018. The cute cat has received a lot of good reviews from people who viewed him as a source of comic relief.

2. Tom the cat

Tom is indeed the most famous cartoon cats across the globe and on this list. The grey and white cat has been one of the two faces of the Tom and Jerry brand since it first premiered in 1940. William Hanna and Joseph Barbera created the characters Tom and Jerry who are always chasing after each other. Tom although not very talkative, he is very vocal about his hate for Jerry the mouse. Most of his traps to catch Jerry always backfires and this make Jerry so happy. Tom and Jerru has motivated many fictional creations.

From featuring in the 1988 animated series by Jim Davis which starred his owner Jon and his dog brother, Odie to the 2004 film starring Bill Murray, the orange tabby has indeed appeared in multiple forms of media. Garfield is portrayed as a lazy grumpy cat, boating his signature look of being entirely done. He was named by Davis after his grandfather who was initially named after the former U.S President James Garfield. After his famous animated series alongside Jon, Odie and many more, Garfield became more famous that he even had his own animated show and movies. Hello Kitty was initially created by Sanrio in 1, November 1974, to promote their merchandise including clothes, toys, games, accessories and books. She is surely one of the most recognized cats that鈥檚 loved all over the world. She is considered to be the most iconic cat of the Kawaii Japanese subculture. She is also a Japanese Bobtail cat, a breed which symbolizes good fortune in Japan. Although she is considered to be a Japanese brand, Hello Kitty is a British character since British culture was very big during her creation. Cheshire cat is well known from his role in the famous Lewis Caroll鈥檚 Disney movie, Alice in Wonderland. The movie indeed brought to life the mysterious nature of the Cheshire cat. The cat is also famous for its ability to appear and disappear and when it disappears it leaves behind a signature smile that is wide and alluring. The cat鈥檚 name and his permanent smile has led to the common phrase 鈥済rin like a Chesire Cat.鈥 Over the years there has been different versions of The Cheshire Cat, the standard tabby cat in books and the Pink and the purple stripped feisty cat in the Disney film. The cat in the Hat is one of the most famous characters in Dr. Seus 1957 children鈥檚 book. The cat is illustrated to where a red and white-striped top hat and a red bow tie. He enters the home of Sally and her brother on one rainy day when the kid鈥檚 mother was not around. While in the house the cat entertained the kids by using a few tricks on them and in the process he and his friends, Thing one and Thing Two wrecked the house. He used his trick to produce a machine that he uses to clean the mess before the kid鈥檚 mother comes back home. He also appeared in a 2003 film starring Mike Myers. 7. Luna

Luna is well known as a fictional character in the Sailor Moon. Luna and her fellow cat Artemis serve as colleagues to the Sailor Scouts in Sailor Moon. Luna is the titular character and that鈥檚 why we focus on her on this article. The black cat who has the ability to talk and has a crescent symbol on her head keeps giving guidance to the characters and helps them solve problems they encounter in their journey alongside her partner Artemis and their daughter Diana. Luna has the ability to transform and at some point, he transforms into a human. In the 2003 live-action series, Luna transformed into a Sailor Scout.

The 1960 animated series features the titular Top Cat aka T.C and his fellow alley cats. Top Cat is a smart yellow tabby that wears a purple vest with a hat. He is the leader of the alley cats and he actually cares for his fellow friends who both want to be top cats in a New York alley. They do so by getting into rich-quick schemes that will make them achieve their goal. His film became so popular that it generated two other films that starred him as the main character but unfortunately the films were not genuinely received well by the audience.

9. Meowth

Meowth is one of the most famous Japanese cartoon cats after Hello Kitty. Meowth has always been a member of Team Rocket since the Pok茅mon鈥檚 launch in 1997. Him and other Team Rocket members went after Ash and his friends. He has two cream whiskers on both sides of its face and two hairs sticking out on both sides of the golden coin-like jewel on his brow. Meowth is special in that he can be able to speak unlike most Pok茅mon. He gained the ability to speak because he wanted to behave like humans. Team Rocket has continued to serve as comic relief for over 20 years and many Pok茅mon have come and left but Meowth still exists.

It follows Oliver who is lost in New York City but he met lazy mongrel Dodger who assists him to steal food from the local vendors. Oliver鈥檚 life took a turn when he luckily met his new owner, the rich Jenny. He has also made regular performances in the Disney series, House of Mouse.

11.Sylvester

Syvester is one of the most famous cartoon characters of all times since his debut in 1945. His of course the main character in the Looney Tunes series. This talking cat is famous for being Tweety鈥檚 enemy just like Tom and Jerry. Sylvester is one of the cartoon characters in Looney Tunes that has likely died several times mostly while chasing Tweety. Talking Tom existed in the early era of the smartphone. It is a Virtual pet app that was released on November 11, 2013 by Slovenian studio Outfit7. Talking Tom allowed people to play with it and it could even repeat their words. This app entertained both the young and old audiences with his tricks and capabilities. Talking Tom sequel, Talking Tom 2 was released on June 11, 2020. Similar apps like Talking Tom have been released including Talking Angela and Talking Hank. Currently Talking Tom has a YouTube channel that features his videos with other characters.

Duchess is the female leading character of the Disney鈥檚 1970 animated film, The Aristocats. She is a beautiful white cat blessed with three children, Marie, Berlioz, and Toulouse. Scratchy is the parody of Tom the Cat from Tom and Jerry. He has a recurring character in The Simpsons series. He also plays a role in The Itchy and Scratchy series and in Itchy the mouse. Scratchy the ignorant cat always goes after Itchy the parody of Jerry but he ends up being hurt or even murdered in some parts of the episodes only to come back alive again in the next episode. Even though scratchy is sometimes not at any fault he always ends up facing cruelty. Scratch and Itchy adventures are comical and interesting to watch.

Snowball is a star in the Simpsons series. She plays as Lisa鈥檚 cat in the Simpsons series. Her peaceful life is always disturbed because of the family shenanigans. Weird fact is that Snowball is not a single cat but there are currently five in number. The first Snowball, named Snowball I died from mysterious causes. She was replaced by Snowball II who was first to appear on our Tv screen but unfortunately, she died from unknown causes. Currently we are at Snowball V in the Simpsons series and we cross our fingers she doesn鈥檛 die like the rest of the Snowball鈥檚 who ended up dying mysteriously.

20. Stimpy

Stimpy is the nickname of Stimpson J. Cat, who appeared on our screen in the 1990s. Similar to 鈥楥atDog鈥, Stimpy and his fellow Chihuahua, Ren face odd adventures that bring a little of adult humor sometimes. Stimpy is a slow but good-natured cat while Ren is the crazy one. Unfortunately, there have been a lot of controversies among the writers who have written about the show鈥檚 theme and style of humor. The series ended up being moved from Nickelodeon to MTV for its final season. Stimpy is still in the hearts of many 1990s fans.

21. Lucifer

Lucifer plays a minor role in the famous Disney movie, Cinderella. He plays his part so well as Lady Tremaine鈥檚 pet. The black fat cat is devoted to her owner who treats him like her own child. Tigger is featured in Winnie-the-Pooh series as Winnie-the-Pooh鈥檚 vibrant companion since his debut in 1928. Their adventures take place in a Hundred Acre Woods. Tigger is well known for his unique orange and black stripes, big eyes, stretchy tail and his ability to bounce. His personality brings humor to the audience. In 1961, he managed to get his own cartoon series, The Yogi Bear Show. Sagwa is a Chinese Siamese Cat starred in a children animated television series based on the children鈥檚 book by Amy Tan. The series aired on PBS Kids in 2001 to 2002, running for only one season which consisted of 40 episodes. It starred Sagwa the Chinese royalty who goes for many adventures with her siblings and her bat friend, Fu-Fu. The show aimed to teach valuable lessons of family responsibilities and loyalty. Even though it ended, the show received several awards including Silver Plaque award at the Chicago International Film Festival for Children Film and so much more.

Bagheera is a fictional character in Rudyard Kipling鈥檚 Mowgli stories, The Jungle Book. The main story focuses on a human kid Mowgli who befriends Bagheera a wise panther who rules over the jungle.
