National Museum of Natural Science is a national museum which was build in 1980 and is located in North District, Taichung, Taiwan.It is one of the biggest museums in Taichung and Taiwan at large. 

The museum was build for several years, with initial works starting on 1980 and opening its last phase in 1999.It also offers a wide variety of natural history exhibitions and interactive scientific experiences.Let’s take a look at some of the most amazing facts about it;

1.The National Museum of Natural Science is divided into several departments

The Research and Collection Division of the museum is divided into departments for zoology, botany, geology and anthropology. it also has an auditorium and It is one of the most beautiful sites to behold and many people love to visit and watch the museum. 

The architect and educator Han Pao-teh was appointed as the first director of the museum in 1987, a post he held until 1995. He was involved with helping to set up the museum before that from 1981. The current director is Chuan-Chin Chiao. 

2.The museum was first opened in 1986

On New Year’s Day of 1986, the first phase of the museum opened, including the Science Center, Space Theater, administrative offices, and outdoor grounds.The second phase was completed in August 1988, and the third and fourth phases were completed in August 1993.

In 1999, the number of specimens in the museum had grown to 551,705.The museum is one of the strongest buildings in the world and one of its kind in Taichung, Taiwan.

The museum is one of the largest buildings in Taichung and it covers 22 acres (89,000 m²) of land and is a six-venue complex housing: the Space Theater, Science Center, Life Science Hall, Human Cultures Hall (original Chinese Science Hall) , Global Environment Hall, and Botanical Garden.

The enormous building sits in a big land and is home to several departments and houses several things including the Theater and a Global environment hall. Most of its visitors have been defined as great learners and have learned the history of Taichung through it. 

4.The Museum is also a major science learning center

The National Museum of Natural Science is also a major science learning centre with over 30 permanent exhibit areas cover subjects on astronomy, space science, paleontology, ecology, gems and minerals, Taiwanese Aborigines, and tropical plants. Rotating special exhibits are a constant occurrence.

It is also a place filled with hands-on exhibits that will delight children and adults of all ages. The Museum is also a major science learning center because over a half million school children visit it annually to study science. 

5.The transportation to the museum is very easy and affordable

One can travel to the National Museum of Natural Science in Taichung very easily at an affordable price. You can travel there by bus through the Botanical garden bus stop( Xitun Road), Chungming senior high school bus stop, Xitun- jianxing intersection. 

You can also travel to the museum using BIcycle which is for rent including the YouBike 2.0 and the iBike 1.0,which are affordable and easy to use. The museum has since become one of the most visited places since it is easy to get to and also affordable in Taichung district and Taiwan. 

6.The Museum has several types of specimen

The National Museum of Natural Science has several different types of specimens stored in it and classified into different sections including ; Earth science specimens (32 items) , Mammals (15 items) , Paleontology (11 items) , Geology (11 items) , Metal(10 items) and Environmental protection (9 items). 

Other specimen also include ;Plants (8 items) , Craft(8), Agriculture and Jewellery(7), Ecology(7), Social science(6), Wildlife(6), Entomology(5), Reptiles and Amphibians(4), Insects(4), Dinosaurs(4), Archeology(3), Butterfly(3) and Birds(3).  

7.The museum’s educations system is accessible through different channels 

The public is able to access the Museum’s education system through different channels including symposiums, lectures, demonstrations, guided tours, field trips, Children activities, traveling events, community services, consultation services and publications. 

The education programs of this museum are meant to complement the public’s everyday experiences as well as to satisfy individual interests and needs. The ultimate purpose of the museum is also to attract visitors, encourage their curiosity, and then expand their horizons.

The museum charges , Adults $100 Students aged above 6,Groups of 20 or more $70 Student groups of 20 or more,Seniors aged 65 and above (with certificates) (on holidays & weekends) $50 Free. 

9.The museum has most of his exhibits in different languages

Most exhibit labels in this museum are bilingual but detailed explanatory material is in Mandarin only. However, that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying the museum.Galleries have fun, interactive displays; there are also theatres and a huge botanical garden.

Some zones impose separate admission charges (NT$20 to NT$100). The museum has over 50 exhibit areas covering space, the environment, rainforests, gems and minerals, dinosaurs, and Han and Austronesian cultures. A visit to the Life Science Hall will help you better understand the evolution of our world in context over a time span from the age of dinosaurs to the age of man.

10.The Museum has a host of dinosaur species

In the Dinosaur Gallery, you will find more than 50 different kinds of fossils and replicas as well as four life-size and lifelike animatronic dinosaurs that always generate great interest and excitement. Finally, the Human Culture Hall offers an insightful look into Chinese medicine, technology, agricultural and spiritual life, for visitors to learn from the wisdom and knowledge of ancestors.

The National Museum of Natural Science is one of the most common features in Taichung and one of the most renowned for its richness in the history.
