The black Sand beach is the result of lava and other volcanic materials being broken down over centuries by the ocean. There are several black sand beaches in Iceland. They include Reynisfjara, Stokksnes, Diamond beach, Heradssandar, Fauskasandur, Solheimasandur among others.

The beaches in Iceland are unique due to the climate conditions of the place, they are as well one of the main tourist attractions in the country. Near Reynisfjara beach there is a basalt cave called Halsafshellir. It is located just behind the Reynisfjell black sand beach. When tourists visit this sand beach, they go to the cave to venture inside it and have fun.

It is said that in the year 2013 the cave collapsed but no one was inside or hurt. It is advisable to be aware of when to get into the cave not to be caught in the cave at high tide. Always ensure that you get into the cave during low tide that’s when is safe.
