15 Things You Didn’t Know About Daniel in the Bible


 

Daniel is a prominent figure in the bible. He was taken into captivity by the Babylonians during the first siege of Jerusalem. He was a devoted Christian and had a steadfast faith in God. He was full of wisdom and due to that, he worked with the four kings Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, Darius the Mede, and King Cyrus the Persian. He is among the four from Judah who were appointed to serve the king. The other three were Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah

He was thrown in the den of lions after a decree was made that for that day human beings were to make a petition to God. And when he was found praying he was thrown but his God rescued him. He was a courageous man and stood for what was right despite the consequences. He would interpret dream especially that of King Nebuchadnezzar and could oversee great things. His name means God is my judge.

1. Daniel had Steadfast Faith and was Devoted to Christ

Daniel had a strong faith in God no matter the challenges or situations in life. He believed that God would conquer and fight all his battles. This can be seen in the book of Daniel 6: 1-28 when the president and the prince were determined to find a cause against Daniel but they go not get any since he was so faithful to God so they concluded that the only way they could get Daniel was concerning the law of his God.

They decided that no one should make a petition to God for the next 30 days and if so the victim would be through in the den of Lion. Through that decree, they were able to get Daniel since he stood in the firm of his God.

2. Daniel was a Very Prayerful Man

Daniel was serious with prayers as it was a way he could communicate with his God. Even after a declaration that no one was supposed to make a petition to God for 30 days, he went on to pray even without hiding not even after hearing the consequence that if found one would be thrown in the den of lions Daniel 6: 10 “Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed he went into his house and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem he kneeled upon his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his god as he did aforetime”.

King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream that he saw a statue that was made of different metals from its head of gold to its feet of mingled iron and clay and as he was watching, a rock was cut out but not by human hands and the metals “iron, the clay, Bronze, silver, and Gold” were broken to pieces Daniel 2: 31-36. When the king dreamt this he called for wisemen to interpret and when they were not able to he said that they were to be persecuted.

When Daniel heard that he went to Enoch and told him that he could interpret the dream. He interpreted that the dream concerned four successive kingdoms, beginning with that of Nebuchadnezzar which were to be replaced by the everlasting kingdom of the God of heaven.

4. Daniel was Full of Wisdom and Intelligence

Daniel was a faithful servant of God who was full of Wisdom and Intelligence. The book of Daniel 1: 17 talks of Daniel being among the four young men whom God gave knowledge and understanding and wisdom. The four young men from Judah are known as Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.

He was able to understand dreams and visions. He had a great impact on the kingdom he lived in as he ministered many works of wisdom to the people and they liked him. To those who didn’t like him was a result of Jealous or not wanting to do what was right.

5. Daniel was Thrown into the Den of the lion

During the reign of King Darius, a decree was made that anyone who was found praying to God would be thrown in the Den of Lions. And so Daniel was found praying as asking God for help and he was reported to the king.

When the king heard that he was greatly distressed and was determined to help Daniel but people went to him saying that according to the law of the Medes and Persians that any law made by the king cannot be changed. And without any undo king ordered Daniel to be thrown in the Den of Lions and aid him “May your God, Whom you Serve continually rescue you” Daniel 6: 12- 16.

6. Daniel was a Courageous Man

Daniel was a courageous man and stood in the way of God. In Daniel 1: 1-10 when King Nebuchadnezzar asked that there should be appointed four Israelites from the royal family and nobility who were well-learned and qualified to serve in the king’s palace, the four men from Judah were chosen among them, Daniel. When they were presented to the king, he assigned them food and wine and they were to be trained for three years

Daniel courageously refused to be defiled by eating the royal food and wine and asked for vegetables and water. Also when the decree had been made that no one should pray to God he stood courageously in his ways and continued to serve God by praying.

7. Daniel was Honored and Trusted

Despite having so many enemies who tried so many ways to bring him down, he still got some honors and was trusted. The book of Daniel 6:3 talks of King Darius the Mede recognized his faithfulness and trustworthiness and promoted him to a position of authority in the kingdom.

 After he was thrown in the den of lions and God Closed the mouth of the lion and it didn’t eat him up, the king asked for Daniel to be removed, and he wrote to all nations concerning the God of Daniel who saves and reigns the whole world and during that time Daniel prospered.

8. Daniel Served as an Adviser to the Kings

Daniel had received a great gift from God of wisdom and with it, he had the power to interpret dreams and visions as a result he worked with the kings including King Nebuchadnezzar of the Babylonians and also the king of Persia.

9. Daniel Served like a Prophet and a Seer

Daniel was not among the known prophet but he served as one. He had the wisdom to oversee what was going to happen. He was able to foresee the mysteries of the end of the age. In Dan 2: 20- 23, 30) we had that Daniel could employ the language of wisdom to address the king as he played the prophetic character of his message by repeatedly taking recourse to wisdom from God.

10. Daniel was a Government Official Under Four kings

Daniel served as a government official under four kings. King Nebuchadnezzar made him an official after he interpreted his dream Daniel 2: 48, King Belshazzar made him an official after Daniel was able to read the original handwriting on the wall Daniel 5: 29, King Darius the Mede was happy about the faithfulness of Daniel and how he stood firm on the faith in God and made his an official Daniel 6: 1-3. And the other king who was happy for Daniel and made him a king was Cyrus the Persian.

11. He was Excellent in his Duties

There is no time we are told failed in his duties. In service to the kings and to the people. If it was an interpretation of a dream all he told was the truth, and worked together with the kings to ensure that what God wanted from them was excellent. On vision to, upon the receiving of them, he stood on want was needed and did excellently

12. Daniel Gave Hope to the People When they Were in Captivity

David had a great role in the history of the Israelites. He had a great contribution to the Jewish identity during the Babylonian captivity when for many years and they had no hope and almost gave up on God due to the challenges they were facing, Daniel would prophecy great things about the future which offered hope and encouragement to the Jewish people.

13. Daniel was Also Called Belteshazzar

When King Nebuchadnezzar asked four men to be appointed from a royal family who was learned and would serve him in the palace, the chosen four were Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were choose. Upon presentation, the chief official gave them new names Belteshazzar, Shadrack, Meshach, and Abednego consecutively. Daniel 1: 6-7.

14. Daniel was Visited by the Archangel

Daniel 8: 15- 16 talks of how Daniel was watching a vision and was trying to understand it a man stood before him and he heard a voice from ulai calling “ Gabriel tell this man the meaning of the vision. And the man who appeared in front of him came closer to him and told him to understand that the vision concerns the time of the end.

15. Daniel was a Humble Man

Despite Daniel having powers to interpret dreams and receive vision he remained humble. He would pray to God to help him in making decisions and even guidance. Even after serving all the kings of Babylon and Persia he remained obedient and humbled himself that they all sought him and created a good relationship despite all the challenges he faced.
