Yui Aragaki, best known for being a Movie Actress, was born in Naha, Okinawa, Japan on Saturday, June 11, 1988. She is the youngest of three sisters.

2. Aragaki began her Nicola modelling career at 13

She began her Nicola modelling career in 2001, at the age of 13, and was very well welcomed as a Nicola model, setting a record for appearing on the cover 15 times. As a play on her surname, one of her co-models, actress Enomoto Ayako, gave her the moniker ‘Gakky.鈥

3. She won the Grand Prix award for the Nicola fashion magazine audition

She applied after noticing an audition advertisement for the junior fashion magazine Nicola and earned the Grand Prix prize for the audition. Shinchosha publishes Nicola, a fashion magazine in Japan. This magazine is aimed at young ladies in their early to mid-teens. The publication is well-known for its models. All of the models are junior high or high school females aged 12 to 16.

They are generally picked at an autumn audition. Every year, thousands of young ladies from all around Japan attend this audition. Models are expected to quit the magazine before entering the second year of high school. Every March, they have a graduation ceremony in Tokyo. At the graduation, Yuri won the Grand Prix award. Even so, she still appears in the magazine occasionally.

4. She relocated to Tokyo when she was 15 years old

She went to Tokyo at the age of 15 and enrolled at Horikoshi High School, which is well-known for being the academic home of many renowned people, including Seiko Matsuda.

5. Aragaki made her acting debut in 2005

In 2005, she made her acting debut in Shibuya. She also got well-known after appearing in Pocky commercials. Aragaki appeared in the TBS drama Dragon Zakura, with Japanese stars such as Tomohisa Yamashita and Masami Nagasawa. This was a defining moment in her acting career. She has since appeared in several other dramas, including My Boss, My Hero, and Gal Circle. She has continued acting on the small and big screen since.

6. She released her debut pop album, “Sora,” in December 2007

On December 5, 2007, she released her first album, Sora, and the single “Heavenly Days,” a song from Koizora. The theme song for Tokyo Serendipity, “Memories,” was featured on her debut album. The album features the theme song for the film Koizora, in which Aragaki stars.

It was produced in two formats: a conventional CD+DVD edition and a limited edition with an artwork cover made by Aragaki herself that costs 1,890 yen. The music video and making-of footage for “Heavenly Days” are included on the standard edition DVD. She also appeared at the Budokan.

7. She was the second actress-turned-singer to have her debut album open in the top 3

With 11,499 copies sold, Sora opened at #2 on the Oricon daily albums chart. Aragaki became the first actress-turned-singer in four years (since Ko Shibasaki) to have her first album open in the top three when it reached #3 on the weekly charts with 72,879 copies sold. Sora was the 10th best-selling album for December 2007. On the annual Oricon albums charts, it was ranked 160th in 2007 and 167th in 2008.

8. Aragaki has won numerous film awards throughout her career

Aragaki earned her first prize, the Nikkan Sports Film Award for Best Newcomer, for her role in the 2007 tragic love story film Koizora. She is now the recipient of five newcomer awards. In 2008, Aragaki received the Film award at the 45th Golden Arrow Awards.

Her numerous film shoots, as well as the preparation for her first album, caused her to experience work-related stress in 2007. Aragaki Yui won the best actress reward at the 60th Blue Ribbon Awards. She was asked to participate in the 58th NHK K艒haku Uta Gassen as a judge.

She was first invited as a judge in the 58th NHK K艒haku Uta Gassen held on 31st December 2007. She was invited as a judge again in the 67th NHK K艒haku Uta Gassen held on 31st December 2016. 

NHK K艒haku Uta Gassen also known as K艒haku is a New Year’s Eve television show produced by Japan’s public broadcaster NHK. The NHK network and certain overseas (mostly cable) broadcasters who acquire the show transmit it live concurrently on television and radio, domestically and globally.

The program splits the year’s most popular music artists into rival red and white teams. The “red” team is made up of all female musicians (or ensembles with female vocals), whereas the “white” team is made up of all male artists (or groups with male vocals). At the end of the program, the judges and audience vote on which group did the best.

10. She married her co-star in a Japanese TV show

In 2021, Aragaki married singer, composer, and actor Gen Hoshino, her co-star in the television series The Full-Time Wife Escapist. Actors Gen Hoshino and Yui Aragaki, who played odd but adorable lovers in a successful Japanese TV drama as teenagers who join a roommate-like contractual marriage in the show, chose to marry after dating for a while.

The narrative of the film addressed the challenge of Japanese culture, where people are increasingly deferring marriage and having children, resulting in one of the world’s lowest birth rates. The pair announced their decision in a joint statement posted on Aragaki’s Instagram.
