10 Things to Eat at Lisbon’s Lx Factory

En route between the Alfama and Belem you’ll find what was once an abandoned factory site in Lisbon; a now thriving gastronomic hub for restaurants, bars, concept store and galleries.

The Lx Factory is something I initially approached with little expectations, other than expecting it to be a retail center overflowing with tourists. To my delight this was not the nature of the Lx Factory at all; rather, it is a ecosystem of tourists and locals all participating in very laid back local establishments.

There are over 50 shops, restaurants, cafes and more within the old factory grounds. Here are ten of my most unmissable places to eat once inside!

1. Cantina Lx in Lisbon

Cantina Lx is one of the first restaurants that will catch your eye as you enter the Lx Factory. It’s a beautifully designed gastronomic space that caters traditional Portuguese cuisine.

The star of their menu is their octopus main, but Cantina caters to vegans as well with a number of exceptional dishes included on the menu.

There is ample seating in this massive warehouse restaurant, walk-ins are welcome.

2. Burger Factory in Lisbon

Burger Factor is usually next on the Lx walking strip and one will find it hard to ignore this spot; they are always playing old school jams from speakers outside.

It’s a great burger joint with ample seating inside and outside. Burgers and beers are the usual order of things but Burger Factory is also open late and makes great cocktails as well.

3. Mez Cais Lx in Lisbon

Mez Cais Lx is deeper into the factory grounds, you’ll have to follow the signs to find it. It’s the Mexican representative of the factory and the food is phenomenal.

Mez Cais Lx is a little smaller than the other restaurants in the Lx Factory and booking is somewhat essential for dinner dining. You’ll be given complimentary corn chips and salsa as you sit down.

4. The Therapist in Lisbon

The Therapist is the vegan gem of the Lx Factory. They make delicious food in an unbelievably chilled setting; think bowls, smoothies, toasts and salads — pick-me-up foods for refueling between sightseeing .

I love their raw pizza slices. Note that they are not open for dinner service like the rest of the restaurants in the factory.

5. El Chanta in Lisbon

El Chanta is across from the Burger Factory and is a beer and finger food cantina. This is the kind of spot where you grab an after work drink with friends and nibble on select platters.

They also do sandwiches and empanadas if you’re looking for something a bit more hearty.

6. A Praça in Lisbon

A Praça is an interesting spot within the Lx Factory, known for its consistently great music and vibe.

The menu is hard to classify; I would call it a fusion of traditional Portuguese and a mix of other well loved cuisines from around the world. A Praça is notorious for being one of the slowest service restaurants inside the Lx Factory, but if you’re not in a hurry to be anywhere then why not take your time here.

7. Sushi Factory in Lisbon

The Lx Factory wouldn’t be complete without at least one sushi restaurant on the bill.

The Sushi Factory is pleasant, spacious and consistently delivers quality sushi. They are also big on cocktails and their all-you-can-eat chef’s selection which will set you back around €17 per person.

8. Dogs in Lisbon

Dogs is the artisanal hotdog spot in the Lx Factory in Lisbon. They make extremely brave choices in terms of hotdog creativity and yet all are tasty as hell. There are also veggie dogs available for all the non-meat eaters out there (order without cheese to make it vegan).

All the dog meals come with a side of fries of your choice. Dogs also does great sangria!

9. Chef Nino in Lisbon

Chef Nino is another daytime eatery within the Lx Factory, you won’t find dinner service here.

They do great brunch and bagels throughout the day. I would do their set menu which costs just €11 and includes a soup, a main, a dessert, a drink and a coffee to end off.

They also make some of the best strawberry ice cream in Lisbon!

10.

1300 Taberna is the Lx Factory version of all the seafood and meat serving restaurants you’ll pass by while on a free guided walking tour through Lisbon’s center.

Octopus, oxtail, pork loin, brisket… you name it, they probably have it.

This spot is slightly pricier than the rest of the Lx Factory.
