When it comes to architecture, Mexican is known for its wonderful designs. Some of the most prominent architects in North America are from Mexico and some other parts of the United States have also adopted Mexican architectural styles.

There are many famous Mexican architects, however, in this article, we have mentioned a few of them such as Luis Barrag谩n whose buildings are famous and are often visited by professors of architecture and international students.

1. Luis Barrag谩n

Luis Barrag谩n was a Mexican architect and engineer. He did great work and his buildings are often visited by international students and professors of architecture. He was the lucky winner of the Pritzker Prize in 1980.

He accomplished many projects, in 1947 he built his own house and studio in Tacubaya, he also rebuilt the Convento de las Capuchinas Sacramentarias in 1955 in Tlalpan, Mexico City and in 1945 he began planning the residential development of Jardines del Pedregal, Mexico City.

2. Ricardo Legorreta

Ricardo Legorreta was a designer of public buildings and private houses. He was the master planner of different countries such as Mexico and the United States of America among others. He studied at the Universidad Nacional Aut贸noma de M茅xico an architecture school and graduated in 1953.

He won several awards such as UIA Gold Medal in 1999, in 2000 he was awarded the AIA Gold Medal and the Praemium Imperiale in 2011.

Some of his major works include Casa Lomas Altas in 1967, Televisa Santa Fe in 1998, Kodak factory in Xochimilco in 1985, Remodel of the Chapultepec Zoo in 1994, Camino Real hoHotelColonia Anzures in 1968, Casa Lomas Altas in 1967, and Tecnol贸gico de Monterrey, Campus Santa Fe in 2001.

3. Juan O鈥橤orman

Juan O鈥橤orman is one of the famous painters and architects. He was born on July 6, 1905, in Coyoac谩n, Mexico. He was determined to pursue architecture since he was young. He attended the Academy of San Carlos an Art and Architecture school at the National Autonomous University and graduated in 1927.

It is interesting to know that Juan was married to fellow architect Nina Wright, a Russian-American architect. He is remembered as a prolific Mexican painter and architect who made many masterful works in the journey of his career.

4. Fernando Romero

Fernando Romero is famously known for founding the fr. ee and Archivo Dise帽o y Arquitectura. He is the son-in-law of Carlos Slim, a Mexico business magnate, investor and philanthropist. He went to the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico to study architecture in 1991 and graduated in 1995.

The architect has been awarded several international and national awards such as an Honorary Fellowship by the American Institute of Architects (2005), the Bauhaus international award in Germany (2004), the Americas Property Award (2012), and 50 Creative Pioneers by Fast Company (2012) among others.

5. Frida Escobedo

Frida Escobedo is one of the famous Mexican architects. She dealt with designing and restoring urban spaces such as community centers, art venues, hotels, and housing. In 2006, she founded her own architectural and Design Studio which is located in Mexico.

She was the youngest architect to work on the Serpentine Pavilion in 2018 and the second woman to be invited to design, Zaka Hadid was the first in 2000. She was named among London’s top 30 most influential architects due to her amazing work on the Serpentine Pavilion by ArchDaily.

6. Ruth Rivera Mar铆n

Ruth Rivera Mar铆n mostly focused on teaching, Institutional management and practice related to architecture. It is interesting to note that Ruth was the first woman student to study architecture at the College of Engineering and Architecture at the National Polytechnic Institute. She graduated in 1950 with a degree in engineer-architect.

She worked on several buildings throughout her career, she was involved in the building of the National Medical Center, Museum of Modern Art Chapultepec together with Pedro Ram铆rez V谩zquez, the Museum “El Eco”  co-worked with Luis Barrag谩n, and Anahuacalli Museum in Coyoac谩n, one of ishisost noted work.

7. Manuel Rocha D铆az

Manuel Rocha D铆az was born in 1936 in Mexico and died in 1996. He attended the Universidad Nacional Aut贸noma de Mexico and graduated in 1961. He was one of the most famous Mexican architects.

Rocha did great work when it comes to architecture and left a legacy behind. Some of his notable works include Perinorte commercial center, M茅xico City (1990), Club de Golf Bella vista, Mexico City (1971), Morelia Conventions center, Morelia Mexico (1981), Casa redonda en tabachines, Mexico City (1973), SACM cinemas, Mexico City (1978) and SACM recording studios, Mexico City (1977) among others.

8. Javier Senosiain

Javier Senosiain is famously known for being one of the first to design organic architecture in Mexico. He studied at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and he is now an architecture professor at the university. He is the founder of the Organic Architecture firm which is responsible for many large projects.

He has accomplished many successful projects which a known widely such as the Casa Ambia, Casa Organica, La Casa del 脕rbol, Ballena Mexicana, Nido de Quetzalcoatl, El Tibur贸n, and El Cacahuate among others.

9. Tatiana Bilbao

Tatiana Bilbao is one of the most famous architects in Mexican, she attended the Universidad Iberoamericana school of architecture and graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture and Urbanism degree in 1996. She mostly focuses on sustainable design and social housing.

In 2004 she founded her own film known as Tatiana Bilbao ESTUDIO and has worked in different countries such as China, France, Mexico, the United States, and Guatemala among others.

She has won several awards such as the 2019 Marcus Prize, 2009 Architectural League Emerging Voices, 2017 A+Awards Impact Award, 2010 Built Work of the Year, CEMEX, 2014 Global Award for Sustainable Architecture Prize, 2011 Young Architect, Colegio de Arquitectos CAM-SAM, and 2012 Berliner Kunstpreis, Akademie der K眉nste among others.

10. Alberto Kalach

Alberto Kalach is a Mexican architect. He attended the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City to study architecture. He co-founded the film “Taller de Arquitectura X” together with Daniel 脕lvarezn in 1981. They worked together until 2002 when Daniel left the film.

Lalach has done several notable works such as Reforma 27 Tower, Mexico City (2007-2010), Casa GGG, Mexico City (1999), Casa Romany, California (2004), Casa La Atalaya, California (2000-2008) and Jose Vasconcelos Library, Mexico City (2002) among others.
