Mexico which is officially known as the United Mexican States is a country in the southern portion of North America. Mexico is bordered to the north by the United States, to the south and west by the Pacific Coast, to the southeast by Guatemala, Belize and the Caribbean Sea and to the east by the Gulf of Mexico.

This country covers more than one million square kilometres making it the world’s 13th-largest country. Mexico has a population of approximately 126,014,024 inhabitants with most of them being Spanish speakers. With this large population, the financial status varies as there are very rich people and the low class.

1. Carlos Slim

Carlos was born on 28th January 1950 in Mexico City. He is a business magnate, investor and philanthropist. Carlos Slim graduated with a degree in Civil engineering and is known as the CEO of Telmex, America Movil and Grupo Carso.

Between 2010 to 2013, Forbes business magazine ranked Carlos as the richest person in the world. Most of his fortune is derived from his extensive holdings in several Mexican companies.

In June 2022, Bloomberg Billionaires Index ranked Carlos Slim as the 12th-richest person in the world with a net worth of $78 billion. He is the richest person in Mexico.

2. German Larrea Mota-Velasco

German is thought to have been born either in 1953 or 1954. He is a Mexican billionaire businessman who is renowned across the world. German Larrea is the CEO of Grupo Mexico which is the largest mining corporation.

Grupo Mexico is also the third largest copper producer in the world. His new worth was estimated to be at US$24.6 billion as of July 2022. He has been the chairman, president and CEO of Grupo Mexico since 1994.

3. Ricardo Benjamin Salinas

Born on 19th October 1955, Ricardo Benjamin Salinas Pliego is a Mexican businessman, founder and chairman of Grupo Salinas. Grupo Salinas is a corporate conglomerate with interests in telecommunications, media, financial services and retail.

Ricardo is the third richest person in Mexico and the 172nd in the world. His estimated net worth is US$13.6 billion as of February 2021.

4. Alejandro Bailleres Gual

Alejandro Bailleres Gual is a Mexican businessman, the CEO of Grupo Nacional Provincial and the son of the billionaire Alberto Bailleres. He was born on May 1960 in Mexico.

Alejandro got his degree from Stanford University. He is the director of Penoles and Grupo BAL which are both owned by his father and of Fresnillo plc.

Alejandro Baillères is also the director of various other top companies. Forbes magazine revealed Alejandro’s estimated net worth is US$9.2 billion.

5. Juan Francisco Beckmann Vidal

Juan was born in February 1940 in Mexico City and grew up in Tijuana. He is a Mexican billionaire businessman and the owner of seventy per cent of the Jose Cuervo tequila brand.

In1970, Juan Beckmann Vidal took over the leadership of the tequila maker Jose Cuervo which had been owned by his family for eleven generations. In 2011, Juan Beckmann Vidal was still the president of this top company. Juan is the fifth richest Mexican with a net worth of US$7 billion.

Juan also has several other investments together with his son. Through Fambech Luxco, Juan and his son own three apartments on the 31st floor of Donald Trump’s New York Tower.

In 2020, there was some controversy that the owner of 84B 438 Park Avenue, a member of the Beckmann family had an out-of-court settlement of a catastrophic water flood. The flood affected floors 83-86. This apartment was worth $84 million.

6. Maria Asuncion Aramburuzabala Larregui

Maria was born on 2nd May 1963 in Mexico City, Mexico. She is a Mexican billionaire businesswoman who has been making headlines for quite some time.

Maria is the chairperson of Tresalia Capital which is a venture capital firm. As of March 2022, Forbes business magazine revealed that her net worth of Maria was estimated at US$6.2 billion.

Maria is ranked as the sixth-richest person and second-richest woman in Mexico. However, she found herself in some controversy, the Pandora Papers which implicated her offshore hidden wealth including two private jets and huge sums of money.

Antonio was born in 1938 and was raised in Mexico. He is a businessman and chairperson of the chemicals company Mexichem.

Antonio graduated from the Escuela Bancaria y Comercial with a degree in accounting. Forbes estimated his net worth to be $4.2 billion as of January 2015.

8. Carlos Hank Rhon

Carlos Hank Rhon is also on the list of the top ten wealthiest people in Mexico. His fortune was made through the selling of his financial firm Grupo Financiero Interacciones to Barnote.

Carlos is the son of former politician Carlos Hank Gonzalez. Other than making his fortune through the sale of his financial institution, Carlos also owns the diversified Grupo Hermes.

Carlos primarily resides in Mexico City where he foresees his business. He graduated from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. Carlos’s net worth is US$2.2 billion.

9. Roberto Hernandez Ramirez

Roberto is a Mexican businessman born in 1942 and raised in Tuxpan, Veracruz, Mexico. Hernandez is a former CEO of Banco Nacional de Mexico which is the second largest bank after BBVA Bancomer from Spain.

Roberto was also a member of the board of Citigroup. He is the chairman of the Banco Nacional de Mexico, S.A. since 1991 to the present day.

Roberto is currently the Honorary Chairman of the Banco Nacional de Mexico. Forbes magazine revealed Carlos has a net worth of US$1.9 billion.

10. Rufino Vigil Gonzalez

Rufino is a Mexican steel baron and chairman of the speciality steel firm Industrias CH. He was born in 1948 and grew up in Mexico.

In 2001, the company of Rufino Vigil Gonzalez bought under 83 per cent of Grupo Simec, a steel smelter with factories in Guadalajara and Mexicali. Rufino owns around 67 per cent of Industrias CH that has branches in Mexico, Canada and the US. His previous net worth was approximately US$1.7 billion and is thought to have risen to $3.5 billion.
