The city has been blessed with influential people from various industries such as sports, acting, anchors, athletes, and many other high-profile individuals. Long Island has produced some of the most successful and influential people in popular culture. From Billy Joel and Mariah Carey to Jerry Seinfeld and Amy Schumer. To be honest, the island is brimming with characters of all stripes. Great singers and instrumentalists have emerged from this location. Billy Joel is one of them.  Joel is a singer, pianist, and songwriter from the United States.

He has had a commercially successful solo career as a solo artist since the 1970s, having released 12 pop and rock studio albums from 1971 to 1993, as well as one studio album of classical compositions in 2001.

He is commonly referred to as the “Piano Man” after his signature song of the same name. With over 160 million records sold worldwide, he is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, as well as the seventh-best-selling recording artist and the fourth-best-selling solo artist in the United States. 2. Mariah Carey

Music appears to have made a home on this island (suggestion). Mariah Carey is another great songwriter from the area. She is a singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress from the United States.

Guinness World Records calls her the “Songbird Supreme,” and she is known for her five-octave vocal range, melismatic singing style, improvisation skills, signature use of the whistle register, and songwriting.

Carey rose to prominence with her debut album Mariah Carey in 1990. From “Vision of Love” to “Emotions,” she was the first artist to have their first five singles reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

She is credited with inspiring several generations of pop and R&B artists, as well as bridging the gap between hip-hop and pop music through her crossover collaborations.

3. Jerome Seinfeld

Jerome Allen Seinfeld is a stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and producer from the United States. He is best known for his role as a semi-fictionalized version of himself in the sitcom Seinfeld (1989–1998), which he created and co-wrote with Larry David.

From 1989 to 1998, the show aired on NBC, becoming one of the most acclaimed and popular sitcoms of all time. Seinfeld specializes in observational comedy as a stand-up comedian. He was named the 12th greatest stand-up comedian of all time by Comedy Central in 2004.

The 2007 film Bee Movie, which Seinfeld produced, co-wrote, and starred in, was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film. In 2010, he debuted The Marriage Ref, a reality show that aired on NBC for two seasons. Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee is a web series created and hosted by Seinfeld (2012–2019).

4. 50 Cent

Curtis James Jackson III, better known as 50 Cent, is an American rapper, actor, television producer, and entrepreneur. Jackson, who was born in Queens’ South Jamaica neighborhood, began pursuing a musical career in 2000 when he produced Power of the Dollar for Columbia Records; however, he was shot days before the album’s planned release, and the album was never released. After releasing the mixtape Guess Who’s Back? in 2002, 50 Cent was discovered by Eminem and signed to Shady Records, which was owned by Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records.

Get Rich or Die Tryin’ (2003), his first major-label album, was a huge commercial success. The album spawned the Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles “In da Club” and “21 Questions”  and was certified 9× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

5. Anthony Irwin Kornheiser

Anthony Irwin Kornheiser is a former sportswriter and columnist who hosts an American television sports talk show.

Kornheiser is best known for his work as a writer for The Washington Post from 1979 to 2008, as a co-host of ESPN’s Emmy Award-winning sports debate show Pardon the Interruption since 2001, and as the host of The Tony Kornheiser Show, a radio show and podcast. Longtime ESPN executive John Walsh once declared that “in the history of sports media, [Kornheiser] is the most multitalented person ever.

Kornheiser’s columns were typically sarcastic with a dash of levity. His columns were notable for his use of an alter ego in italics to question his points of view for self-deprecation. Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon received the 2017 Fourth Estate Award from the National Press Club on October 4, 2017.

6. Ashanti Shequoiya 

Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas is a singer and actress from the United States. She was discovered as a teenager and eventually signed with Murder Inc. Records in 2002.

That same year, she appeared on Fat Joe’s “What’s Luv?” and Ja Rule’s “Always on Time,” both of which became huge hits. She became the first female artist to hold the top two positions on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States, with “Foolish” at number one and “What’s Luv?” at number two.

In 2002, Ashanti released her self-titled debut album, which sold over 505,000 copies in the United States in its first week. During National Domestic Violence Awareness Month in 2003, Ashanti collaborated with LidRock and the San Francisco-based Family Violence Prevention Fund (FVPF) to raise awareness about the issue of domestic violence and to distribute the “Rain on Me” mini-movie via LidRock’s unique platform.

7. Speedy Claxton

Craig Elliott “Speedy” Claxton is the current head coach of the Hofstra University men’s basketball team and a former professional basketball player in the United States. Claxton won an NBA championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2003.

He was named as a special assistant to the head coach for the Hofstra University men’s basketball team in 2013, before being named head coach in 2021. Before joining the Hofstra University men’s basketball staff in 2013, Claxton worked as a college scout for the Golden State Warriors. He was hired as Hofstra’s head coach on April 7, 2021.

Claxton led the Pride to the CAA regular season title and was named CAA Coach of the Year in 2022-23.

8. Stephen Baldwin

 He is an actor, producer, and director from the United States. Born on the Fourth of July (1989), Posse (1993), 8 Seconds (1994), Threesome (1994), The Usual Suspects (1995), Bio-Dome (1996), and The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas (1996) are among his film credits (2000).

Baldwin also appeared as himself in the reality show Celebrity Big Brother 7, in which he finished ninth in the United Kingdom, and Celebrity Apprentice. He directed Livin’ It, a Christian-themed skateboarding DVD, in 2004. He is the eldest of the Baldwin brothers.

Baldwin endorsed Sam Brownback for President of the United States in 2007. Baldwin switched his support to Mike Huckabee after Brownback ended his campaign. After Huckabee dropped out of the 2008 presidential election, Baldwin became an outspoken supporter of the John McCain-Sarah Palin ticket. Baldwin was one of the first Hollywood stars to back Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election.

9. Jennifer Maria Capriati

 She is a former world number one tennis player from the United States. She was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame after winning three Grand Slam singles titles and gold at the 1992 Summer Olympics.

Capriati set a number of records for the youngest person ever at the start of her career. At the age of 13 years and 11 months, she made her professional debut in 1990, reaching the final of a hard-court tournament in Boca Raton, Florida.

During her career, she won 14 professional singles tournaments and one women’s doubles title.  She was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2012, at the age of 36, and is widely regarded as one of the best tennis players of her generation, as well as one of the best Grand Slam performers of her time, frequently reaching the final stages.

10. Jerry Greenfield

Let us take a look at people who were raised on Long Island. They were not born there but were raised in this beautiful place. Jerry Greenfield is one of them. He is a businessman and philanthropist from the United States. Ben & Jerry’s Homemade Holdings, Inc. was founded by him.

Greenfield was raised on Long Island. He went to Oberlin College, where he was a National Merit Scholar and studied pre-med before graduating in 1973. He applied to medical school but was rejected before deciding to start a business with a childhood friend, Ben Cohen. Greenfield and Cohen opened their first ice cream shop in downtown Burlington, Vermont, after taking an ice cream-making class at Penn State. 

The company, which was sold to the British-Dutch corporation Unilever in 2000, has since opened nearly 200 franchised stores and earns $237 million per year.

11. Sean Patrick Hannity

 He is a conservative political commentator, author, and talk show host from the United States. He is the host of The Sean Hannity Show, a nationally syndicated talk radio show, and has also hosted Hannity, a Fox News commentary program, since 2009.

In 1989, Hannity worked as a general contractor while volunteering as a talk show host at UC Santa Barbara. He later worked for WVNN in Athens, Alabama, and WGST in Atlanta. He worked at WABC in New York after leaving WGST until 2013. Hannity has been with WOR since 2014.

Hannity and Alan Colmes co-hosted Hannity & Colmes on Fox in 1996. He emerged on the Hannity & Colmes show into Hannity after Colmes announced his departure in January 2008. He has received numerous honors and awards, including an honorary doctorate from Liberty University.

12. Adam Fox 

He is an American professional ice hockey defenseman for the National Hockey League’s New York Rangers (NHL). Fox was chosen 66th overall by the Calgary Flames in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Fox won the James Norris Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s best defenseman in 2021.

Joining Bobby Orr as the only two players in NHL history to do so before their third NHL season. He spent two seasons in the United States National Team Development Program, setting records for the most assists in a single season (in 2015-16) and the most assists in a career (in 2014–16).

He graduated from college a year early and made his NHL debut in 2019 with the Rangers. In his rookie season, he tied for second in goals and was third in assists and points among all NHL rookie defensemen.

13. John Mackey

 He was a tight end for the Baltimore Colts and the San Diego Chargers in the National Football League. He grew up in Roosevelt, New York, and went to Syracuse University. From 1970 to 1973, he was the first president of the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) following the AFL-NFL merger.

Mackey was also a driving force behind the NFLPA’s creation of the “88 Plan,” which provides financial assistance to ex-players who require it in later years. Mackey, a five-time Pro Bowler, was the second pure tight end elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1992 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest tight ends of all time.

He appeared in five Pro Bowls during his playing career, including his rookie year. He was also named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame three times. Mackey was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1992, becoming only the second pure tight end to do so.

14. Ira Magaziner

Ira Magaziner is an American consultant. He was born in New York City, New York, United States. Magaziner worked as a student activist and business consultant. Before becoming President Clinton’s senior advisor for policy development, particularly as chief healthcare policy advisor.

He now leads two of the Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea Clinton Foundation’s international development initiatives that are at the forefront of non-governmental organizations in addressing global health and environmental issues.

Magaziner has been the CEO and Vice Chairman of the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) since 2002. working to save lives in low and middle-income countries by facilitating access to essential medicines and health services.

15. Idina Menzel

Menzel, who is best known for her work in Broadway musicals and has achieved mainstream success in stage, film, and music, has earned the honorific title “Queen of Broadway” for her accomplishments. 

 Her honors include an American Music Award, a Billboard Music Award, a Disney Legends Award, and a Tony Award, as well as three Drama League Awards and four Drama Desk Awards nominations.

She was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2019 for her contributions to live theater. In 1996, Menzel made her Broadway debut as Maureen Johnson in the rock musical Rent, for which she received a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.
