Goth culture fans can celebrate news of the return of Tim Burton in Prague. This American pioneer of goth film culture had a successful event in 2014. Ten years later, he brings Prague an exhibition featuring over 600 works from his career. The event has been ongoing at the Municipal House since 1 May and will run until 30 September 2024. It opens daily from 10:00 a.m. to 7. p.m.

The exhibition titled 鈥淩eturns鈥� will showcase the creative process of the acclaimed filmmaker. Visitors can expect the enchanting world of the artist through storyboards, sketches, photographs, and film puppets.

This exhibition is a testament to Burton’s dedication to his craft. In the first room, you will encounter a typical gallery setting. The second room presents Burton’s personality since childhood. Unique designs of film puppets are displayed within large plastic spheres. Each of the spheres has smaller glass peepholes on its surface. This will transport viewers into Burton鈥檚 distinctive imagination and vision.

“Among the several hundred drawings, paintings, and collages you will also find puppets and film sets at the exhibition. So you will see the Martians from Mars Attacks, the skeleton dancers from The Corpse Bride, and the Oompa Loompas from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, along with other Burton sculptures of fantastic characters that have yet to be filmed, ” explained Kate艡ina Riley the exhibition’s organizer.

Besides Burton鈥檚 works, visitors to the exhibition will learn about the evolution of the American pop scene and its influence on his creation. From artistic waves to fashion trends, Burton has countless sources of inspiration for his work. He has also sparked many creative movements worldwide, from Pop Surrealism to Gothic and New Gothic allure.

Later in the year, there will be a musical adaptation of Beetlejuice at the Karl铆n Musical Theatre in Prague. It will run from November following the release of the much-awaited sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in September.

Burton is a household name in popular culture. He has produced some of Hollywood’s most celebrated films. In the 1980s he is honored for works like Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (1985), Beetlejuice (1988), and Batman (1989). His famed 1990s works include Edward Scissorhands (1990), Batman Returns (1992), The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) and Mars Attacks! (1996).

Additionally, since 2000 Burton has directed notable pieces like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) and Alice in Wonderland (2010). Some of his recent works are Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (2016), Dumbo (2019) and Wednesday (2022). His latest work is Beetlejuice Beetlejuice expected in September 2024.
