Amsterdam is making public transport free (again) for children under 12 during the summer, as part of a broader initiative to reduce car use and promote sustainable transportation in the city . The scheme, which allows children between the ages of 4 and 11 to travel for free on buses, trams, and metros operated by GVB, will run from July 22 and is valid until 5 January 2025. To travel for free, children must have a personal OV-chip card, which can be applied for through ov-chipkaart.nl.
