As the summer holidays approach, RyanAir’s CEO, Michael O’Leary, is urging travellers to book their flights early. Due to fewer flights and an increasing number of travellers, airlines across Europe are expected to struggle to meet the demand, resulting in a 10% increase in airfare prices.

This is caused by the delay in delivering new Boeing aircraft, which has led to a decrease in RyanAir’s fleet. Mr O’Leary stated that “maybe we will have to bring that 205 million down towards 200 million passengers due to the lack of available aircraft’’. Additionally, he warned, “Even our growth this year is going to be constrained in Europe, and I think that leads to a higher fare environment across Europe for summer 2024.” Mr O’Leary was speaking at the Dublin Headquarters.
About the increase in airfare this summer, Mr O’Leary also stated, “Fares in summer 2024 are going to be up. Our average airfares in summer 2023 rose 17pc. If capacity was growing, I think fares would be falling.”

The airline had forecasted 205 million passengers by March 2025 an increase from 183.5 million in 2023. There have been concerns over the quality check of Boeing aircraft. This has resulted in a slowdown in the production process. Ryanair’s contract with Boeing for the delivery of 57 new planes by the end of March is expected to result in only 40 to 45 planes being received.
Despite forecasting an increase to 205 million passengers by March 2025, up from 183.5 million in 2023, Ryanair’s growth will be inhibited due to the lack of available aircraft.
