March is a great month to welcome Spring, and as it nears its end, that means one thing! Sunny days are just around the corner. As winter retreats, and  warm sun rays shyly make their debut, Lisbon becomes most enchanting in Spring. Cherry blossoms, purple jacaranda canopies and lush flowers on trees paint the city’s landscape in all sorts of color. The weather is mild but also warm enough to please, making a visit to the World Tile City a great idea at this time of year!

Spring comes a bit earlier in Lisbon as compared to other Portugal cities. From late March to  late May or early June, rainy days become fewer, and temperatures rise. It is not too hot yet, and the occassional drizzle only adds to the allure of the city.  This is the best time to visit, and many agree.

Mild weather in Lisbon means you can comfortably explore outdoor gems. There are so many things to do in Spring! Walking around the historic Alfama neighborhood is one of the must-do activities in Spring (especially If you’ve never done it). A fascinating observation is the enhanced beauty of the tiles, as the clear blue skies and added brightness embrace the atmosphere.

Stunning landscapes! Lisbon’s cobblestone streets, palette-colored buildings and stunning coastal treats already make it beautiful for sure. But spring blossoms transform this beauty into even an more stunning spectacle, painting the city’s streets in lovely colors.

The trees, parks and flowers transform into picturesque sights all over the city. The botanical gardens in Belem and Principe Real are a feast for the eyes, so make sure you check them out. Parks such as the Parque Eduardo VII beckon with their lush charm, and there is no end to the scenic offerings!

Less crowds: You can expect fewer crowds early in spring. Summer crowds are yet to start pouring in, and festivals in June are still two months away. That means accommodation is relatively more available and prices are still reasonably low.

If you plan to visit in June, the popular Festas de Lisboa adds more charm with the festivities. Of course, crowds are more as summer kicks in,  and the streets are packed with parades, dance, music and the amazing sardine grills. This iconic fusion of local traditions transforms Lisbon into an even livelier city.
