Assembly is its name, and it’s being described as ‘the City’s first modern amphitheater’ and ‘the first in the City in 2.000 years.’ History buffs might scoff at the description, but its supporters have pointed out the existence of a much older Roman amphitheatre discovered nearby in 1988. At a 50-seat capacity, Assembly is undeniably much smaller than its Roman counterpart.

  Located in the Maughan Library Courtyard of King’s College London, this 50-seat outdoor performance venue was designed by Urban Radicals, AKT II and Millimetre. The design was presented at the London Festival of Architecture 2024. Assembly, recently opened, will be hosting free programs in the city over the next few months. These will include lectures, workshops, panel discussions. On July 3, 9 and 31 from 5.30 pm, the venue will air Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
