Dublin Zoo has proudly unveiled its latest addition to the African Plains exhibit – Callie, a striking female Northeast African cheetah. Hailing from Fota Wildlife Park, the five-year-old cheetah has already captured the hearts of visitors with her grace and agility.

The arrival of Callie marks a significant milestone for Dublin Zoo, as she is the first cheetah to roam its grounds since 2004. Swift and stealthy, cheetahs are renowned as the fastest land animals on the planet, capable of reaching speeds of over 100km/hr.

Upon her recent arrival, Callie wasted no time in making herself at home, delighting zookeepers and visitors alike with her active explorations of her new surroundings. With her fur adorned in distinctive black spots, she embodies the epitome of grace and power in the animal kingdom.

Expressing enthusiasm for the addition, Dublin Zoo Team Leader Helen Clarke commented, “We are thrilled to have Callie join us after two decades. Her settling in has been seamless, and we are eager to witness the excitement on our visitors’ faces as they encounter this magnificent big cat up close.”

As an active participant in the European breeding program for Northeast African cheetahs, managed by Fota Wildlife Park, Dublin Zoo remains dedicated to conservation efforts. Callie’s presence serves as a testament to the organization’s commitment to protecting and preserving endangered species.
