As the countdown to the Paris Olympics 2024 reaches the 100-day mark, Eurostar, the international rail firm connecting the UK to continental Europe, anticipates its busiest-ever summer peak. Coinciding with the normal highest demand for travel, the Olympics are expected to draw many British families heading to France for the sporting extravaganza.

Upon the release of tickets for trains between London and Paris during the Olympic period, Eurostar witnessed an unprecedented surge in bookings, tripling the usual rate. Gwendoline Cazenave, chief executive of Eurostar, revealed to that sales for trains between the two cities skyrocketed threefold compared to typical sales openings.

“We have already sold more than 400,000 tickets. So, yes, it’s gonna be a busy period. The trains are getting full really quickly. But we still have places,” Cazenave stated. Despite the high demand, Eurostar assures travellers that there are still available seats for those planning to journey between London St Pancras International and Paris Gare du Nord. However, with the influx of visitors expected during the Olympics, prices have seen a significant increase. The cheapest return ticket for the duration of the Games stands at £318 in standard class, while shorter trips during the event can be secured for £158 return between 29 July and 1 August.

Ms Cazenave highlighted that passengers might even find themselves sharing the train with Olympic athletes, as Eurostar is expected to transport numerous competitors to Paris. “We have 140 trains to Paris on which we’ll have athletes, so our customers will be able to meet athletes,” she revealed. Additionally, Eurostar will host the opening ceremony before the official commencement in Paris.

With the Paris Olympics set to run from 26 July to 11 August, Eurostar’s preparations are underway to accommodate the surge in travellers, promising a seamless journey for spectators, athletes, and enthusiasts alike.
