Here comes one of the most popular days in a month in the eternal city: Free Museum Day. This day comes every first Sunday of each month to allow everyone to have a glimpse of the beautiful displays in the museums. The next free museum day is on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

If you are traveling to Rome or live in the city, April 7 is the day to head to some of the biggest museums in the city. You will be able to explore the iconic symbol of Rome’s history, the Colosseum, without having to pay a dime.

Alternatively, you can wander through the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill and see the history of the ancient city in one place. You will also be able to head to any of the National Roman Museums spread in several locations in the city. Palazzo Massimo, Palazzo Altemps, and Crypta Balbi, among other locations, are free and open to the general public.

However, be aware of the crowds in these places where viewership is free of charge. While you are planning to visit a museum in Rome on Sunday, keep in mind the huge crowds at the museums. Perhaps deeper research and the proper selection of a museum to visit are important. You could opt to visit some of the museums that do not follow the free Sunday policy in the city.

Castel Sant’Angelo and Galleria Borghese are among the museums that will continue charging a fee even on a free museum day. These two, among others, can be a better option if you are trying to avoid long queues.
