Iceland, Denmark and Ireland are the top 3 most peaceful countries to live in, a recent survey shows. The Global Peace Index (GPI) compiled by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) looked at how each country was committed to creating a stable and comfortable environment in which their citizens are allowed to thrive and grow without the worry of crime and the threat of danger.
According to the 2023 Global Peace Index, Ireland claimed the third position with a GPI score of 1.312. The Emerald Isle is not only famous for its stable democracy and respect for political and civil liberties, rolling lush green landscape, and low crime rate but also for the tranquillity it offers its residents and visitors alike.
The researchers used 23 indicators to assess safety, conflict, and militarization in various countries. Some of the indicators used to provide a detailed analysis of peace levels worldwide included factors like crime rates, political stability, and military spending. According to the researchers, the GPI helps policymakers and organizations make informed decisions regarding peace and security where each country is assigned a GPI score, and the lower the score, the better.
Other countries that featured in the top 10 list include Iceland, Denmark, Ireland, New Zealand, Austria, Singapore, Portugal, Slovenia, Japan and Switzerland. The comprehensive report can be found .
