The latest surge keeps the Lakers Championship hopes Alive

As the first round of the NBA playoffs starts on April 15, 2023, with Brooklyn Nets going up against the Philadelphia 76ers, it is anticipated to be one of the most captivating playoff seasons ever. Both fans and basketball pundits agree that this might be one of the most anticipated postseasons given how teams have shown the zeal to win as the regular season came to the home stretch. Given the current situation, any team could win the NBA championship.

One team that has shown quite an impressive run is the LeBron James-led Los Angeles Lakers.

Observing the team’s sudden surge in spirit and energy, it has become one of the most exciting teams to watch out for. Overwhelmed by injuries as the regular season was on, the team has since rebranded itself in their latest appearance. Some of the notable injuries that could have threatened the Lakers’ performance comprised of LeBron James who was off for a month after suffering a torn tendon on his right foot. Anthony Davis came back from a right foot injury with D’Angelo Russell also coming out of a left foot soreness injury.

With a reinforced squad, the Los Angeles Lakers have been nothing but spectacular seeing by how they have been playing in the final regular-season games.

The Lakers are 8-2 in their last 10 games with their most interesting win being the Play-in game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wed 12, April 2023.  In the gruelling game the Timberwolves led by Karl- Anthony Towns controlled pretty much the first three quarters but things took a sudden turn changed in the fourth quarter as the Lakers who were trailing with 9 points forced an overtime play in which they ended up winning 108-102 at the expense of the Timberwolves.

In the game, we could see why the Lakers squad seems to have been rejuvenated with the cusp of the championship in their site. With a much-revamped team comprising Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell, Dennis Schröder, Anthony Davis and LeBron James, Darvin Ham the LA Lakers coach has expressed confidence in his team. He is quoted, “Everybody is all hands on deck and everybody is about to get in the work”, this comes as they prepare for their first matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies in the postseason on Sunday 16, April 2023.

Before the 2023 All-Star held on February 19, 2023, the Los Angeles Lakers had a 27-32 record. They however turned things around having an upward trajectory and finishing off the regular season with a 43-39 record. Their game against the Grizzlies is high-stakes and the Lakers are looking to get through them to get a chance to win the championship three years later after their last Championship in the 2020 season. Even though The Los Angeles Lakers have a 3% chance of winning the NBA Finals according to FiveThirtyEight, the team looks determined to get another ring for the city.

As LeBron looks to add his fifth ring and lead the Lakers to be the most decorated NBA team, we just have to wait and see how things pan out for the LA Lakers franchise this postseason but first, let’s wait for Sunday.
