Brendan Rodgers exits Leicester City.

The Foxes plummeted into the bottom three following Saturday’s last-gasp defeat at Crystal Palace, which extended their winless streak to six games. As a result, their top-flight status is in serious jeopardy heading into the season’s closing stretch.

Rodgers, 50, began his coaching career in Chelsea鈥檚 system before spending time with Watford and Reading. He made his name with Swansea from 2010-12, then moved on to Liverpool and Celtic before returning to the Premier League with the Foxes in 2019.

Rodgers, who recently marked four years in command at the King Power Stadium, delivered two top-five Premier League finishes and the club’s first-ever FA Cup victory in 2021 but left “by mutual consent” on Sunday.

Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha insisted that the club had 鈥渆xperienced some of our finest footballing moments鈥 during Rodgers鈥 reign but that the board was 鈥渃ompelled鈥 to make a managerial change to avoid being relegated to the Championship.

Srivaddhanaprabha said, “The achievements of the team under Brendan鈥檚 management speak for themselves 鈥 we鈥檝e experienced some of our finest footballing moments under his guidance and will always be grateful to him and his staff for the heights they helped us to reach on the pitch.

鈥淥ff the pitch, Brendan embraced the culture of the Club and helped cultivate a unique developmental environment, particularly during the transition to Seagrave, and provided strong leadership during the unprecedented challenge of the coronavirus pandemic. As a result, his place in Leicester City’s history is assured.

鈥淗owever, performances and results during the current season have below exceeded our shared expectations. It had been our belief had believed that continuity and stability would be key to correcting our course, particularly given our previous achievements under Brendan鈥檚 management. The task ahead of us in our final ten games is clear. We now need to unite 鈥 fans, players, and staff 鈥 and show the poise, quality, and fight to secure our position as a Premier League club.鈥

First-team coaches Adam Sadler and Mike Stowell have been appointed interim managers, tasked with preparing the club for Tuesday’s crucial match against Aston Villa.

Rodgers succeeded Claude Puel in February 2019. They missed out on Champions League qualification twice due to last-day defeats, placing fifth in 2019/20 and 2020/21, but Rodgers did lead his team over the line in the FA Cup in 2021.

They made their first European semi-final appearance last season, reaching the final four of the inaugural Europa Conference League before falling to Roma. However, Leicester has won just twice since the Premier League resumed after the World Cup break, defeating Aston Villa and Tottenham on February 4 and 11, respectively, and has lost five of six games while scoring only three goals.

Nevertheless, the club’s environment shifted in the summer, with financial restrictions forcing several players to go, including star defender Wesley Fofana, and only one outfield player to join.

Rodgers signed Harry Souttar at the end of the January transfer window, making him the only Australian international currently playing in the Premier League.

But, the Socceroo center-back has only found himself amid a relegation battle.

Leicester made a disastrous start to the season, losing six of their first seven games before improving and climbing to the mid-table.

A run of six games, including defeats against relegation rivals Southampton and Palace, was too much for the board, and the change was implemented.
