Mason Mount could join Manchester United next season

Mason Mount, a midfielder for Chelsea, is reportedly the subject of negotiations between Manchester United and other Premier League clubs this summer.

According to The Daily Mail, United have started negotiations to secure the move of the 24-year-old. Although Chelsea is anticipated to press for a fee closer to £85 million for a player whose contract expires next summer, the Red Devils are set to explore a deal in the neighborhood of £55 million.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool are expected to make moves for Mount, who is in high demand. The Chelsea player, who represents England at the international level, is now recovering from surgery after an abdominal issue forced him to miss the entire season. In an effort to keep the Blues academy product at Stamford Bridge, Mount is claimed to have rejected offers of a new contract this season. A final offer is alleged to have been made last month. Chelsea must recover transfer payments in order to adhere to Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations in order to avoid losing Mount for free next summer after a £600 million spending binge this season.

The youthful midfielder is thought to be a favorite of Mauricio Pochettino, the incoming Chelsea manager, who values Mount’s versatility in the team’s formation. Mount’s pushing strategy is also praised, and coaches at both the club and international levels like how hard he works.

However, the star may decide to play elsewhere if Chelsea does not qualify for Europe in the upcoming season. With their expanding group of young English talent likely to perform well over the next few years under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal might reunite Mount with childhood friend and England teammate Declan Rice.

Given their pressing style of play, Liverpool would also be a good option for Mount, but they appear set to get Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for £70 million, so it’s not certain if they’ll have enough money to sign both players.

Due to Erik ten Hag’s ability to guarantee Champions League participation and probable access to significant transfer funds as a result of the club’s impending takeover, this may put United in the lead. Ten Hag also prefers pushing strategies that would go well with Mount’s skills.

Due to his connections with fellow United target Harry Kane, Mount’s England efforts also assisted the Three Lions in 2021 as they reached the European Championships final. In what may be a blockbuster acquisition for the club’s summer transfer window, Kane is also desired at Old Trafford.

Frank Lampard, who worked with Mount once at Derby before bringing him into the first team during his first stay at Stamford Bridge, is a well-liked player at Chelsea. His greatest contribution to the team was his assist on Kai Havertz’s game-winning goal in the Champions League final in 2021.

When asked whether Mount had played his final match for the club last month, Lampard remained evasive. I’m not sure of the response to that; Mason and the club were having a conversation, so I’m not sure. Because those discussions are still going on, it’s not final at this time.

“It’s a shame for me personally because I think everyone knows how I feel about working with Mason and I like to think he feels the same about me, and we could have done with him in the games we’ve played already this season.

“But the bigger picture is something that’s going to become clearer in the next weeks and months, and that will be the club and Mason together having conversations.”

All eyes are on United as they prepare to have a strong team for the Champions League next season.
