Every spring, a brilliant carpet of colour sweeps across the parks and gardens of Istanbul. The Istanbul Tulip Festival is blooming again from April 1st to May 1st, 2024, beckoning travellers from around the globe with its rainbow fields of magnificent tulips.

Why Does Istanbul Celebrate Tulips? 

For centuries Tulips have held a revered place in Turkish culture and history. Tulips were a beloved symbol of abundance, indulgence, and life during the Ottoman Empire. Each spring, the Sultan would celebrate the tulip season by hosting weeks of festivals with lavish tulip-themed parties and events. This deep-rooted tradition continues today with the Istanbul Tulip Festival drawing millions of tulip admirers annually.

In 2024, over 30 million tulips of more than 300 varieties will decorate the city’s parks and gardens in dazzling tropical and pastel shades. Park staff spend months carefully cultivating and planting the tulips. They do so while ensuring synchronous bloom to create unbelievable springtime scenery.
