Metropolitans Thrashed In Game 1 Of the LNB Pro A Finals

After a week-long rest for the Metropolitans 92 after eliminating ASVEL in the semifinals of the LNB Pro A, Wembanyama-led Metropolitans 92 began their finals game 1 with a whooping from the formidable top-seed Monaco.

Despite a spirited fight by the Metropolitans 92 in the entire game, Monaco got the best of them, ending the game at 87-64 at the expense of Metropolitans 92.

The first half ended 52-21 with Monaco leading with more than 30 points after a stellar second-quarter performance.

Quarter 2 of the first half saw Monaco run a point-train against Metropolitans 92, scoring 29 against only 6 which the Mets were able to put up.

As the star player, Wembanyama only managed to score 8 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks.

For the 7 ‘4” French phenom, blocks are a no-brainer to him and this was evident the entire game whereby Wemby showed his prowess on the defensive end of the court.

An impressive block from Victor Wembanyama at the start of the game was a highlight of the beginning minutes and set the momentum of the entire game.

The slow start by Metropolitans in game 1 of the LNB Pro A finals came as expected as they were the underdogs in it coming in after finishing second behind Monaco who commanded a comfortable lead on the LNB Pro A regular season.

The highest scorer of the entire game was Metropolitans 92’ Armel Traore who managed a cool 15 points after only 16 minutes.

A spirited Monaco side had three players finishing with over 10 points starting with Alpha Diallo with 14 points, Mike James with 12 and Elie Okobo with 10.

A struggling Metropolitans tried staging a comeback in the final quarter going on to win the quarter by 27-16 but that was not enough to change things as the game ended 87-64 in favour of Monaco.

With total domination on the floor, Monaco got the best of the Metropolitans’ 92 on the floor, outscoring them at the three-point arc and also capitalizing on rebounds.

With only 16 3-point attempts, the Metropolitans only hit 3 which is 18.8%. Monaco had a stellar percentage whereby they managed to hit 41.7% of all their attempts at the 3-point arc.

In general, Metropolitans 92 struggled the entire game and with Wembanyama on the squad, a lot was expected from him.

Being the presumptive number one pick on June 22, 2023, NBA draft, a lot is expected from Victor Wembanyama, especially by the team he joins.

Being a leader and leading his current team will give the motivation and psyche to his future team in the NBA of how things will be once he joins.

We can’t rule out a possibility of a comeback for the Metropolitans 92 because this is just game 1 in a best-of-five series.

More games to come and Metropolitans looking to even the series and cruise past Monaco especially now that they have a reason to win, we just have to wait and see how the LNB Pro A finals pan out.
