Visitors in Prague can join in the Open House Prague Festival running an entire week from May 13th to 19th, 2024. This 10th-anniversary edition will include castle gems and English-language tours. The festival will climax over the weekend (May 18th & 19th). At least 115 buildings and spaces around the city will allow free admission to the public.

Highlights to Expect

For the first time in the festival鈥檚 history, this year will feature several buildings of the Prague Castle complex. Visitors can look forward to exploring the Presidential Residence. It was first designed for President Edvard Bene拧 by architect Pavel Jan谩k. Though it has undergone extensive renovations over the years, its original elements remain intact, preserving its history.

Still within Prague Castle, the New Orangery will be a notable highlight to expect. This glass and steel structure is credited to architect Eva Ji艡i膷n谩. The greenhouse is a marvel with automated systems for plant care. Besides, it features stunning fountains designed by renowned architects. The project was the brainchild of Olga Havlov谩, who was President V谩clav Havel鈥檚 first wife.

Moreover, the Lobkowicz Palace will be an opportunity for visitors to explore art collections and historical architecture. It is the only privately owned building within the Prague Castle premises. It houses the Lobkowicz Collections and Museum, a display of the family鈥檚 prestigious collections. Its Renaissance and Baroque designs showcase its centuries-old heritage.

Beyond the castle premises, this year features over 35 new buildings in the program. These extra facilities are spread across 13 districts around the city.

“In the ten years that we have been organizing the festival, we have come a long way, overcome many barriers, and are still overcoming many. However, the energy from connecting people intergenerationally, professionally, people from buildings and people with various handicaps is incredible, and the festival’s overlaps are in areas where I didn’t even expect it,” explained Andrea 艩enky艡铆kov谩 the festival’s founder through a press release.

Among the new buildings will be the former restaurant of the 艩tvanice Winter Stadium by Josef Fuchs. Also, the B铆l谩 Elementary School and Nursery School structures. Further, the Old Town Market Hall, the Municipal Insurance Company palace, the Fanta Building at the main railway station, the 艩koda Works Palace, and many more.

This year also features more tours in the English language since many tours across the landmarks are conducted in Czech. English tours to explore will include the Great Strahov Stadium, ranked among the world’s largest stadiums. The ARA Palace is a 1930s functionalist architecture, a perfect sight to catch city views from its terrace.

Visitors can enjoy more English tours at the Sokol Gymnasium in Vinohrady. This Sokol gym is the biggest of its kind in the world. The Laichter House designed by famed architect Jan Kot臎ra is another highlight. The Clubhouse of the Autoclub of the Czech Republic boasts outstanding interiors. It is a chance to see the seat of the first Czech automobile club.

Experience more English tours at The Old Town Market Hall and 艩koda Works Palace. Also at Terminal 4 at V谩clav Havel Airport among more options. Prepare to explore Prague like never before.

A detailed list of English-language tours and more information on the program can be found on the Open House Prague festival website.
