Travelers looking for a cultural paradise can visit Prague after the city received a runner-up crown from TimeOut magazine for the world鈥檚 best city for art and culture. Also known as the City of a Hundred Spires, Prague was second following Mexico City in the 2023 annual ranking.

TimeOut engaged more than 21,000 city-dwellers across the globe during the survey. Participants were asked to rate their city鈥檚 cultural scene as well as name the best cultural venues and experiences. Those surveyed were also requested to score the city鈥檚 cultural offering based on quality and affordability factors.

In another report by the Czech Republic National Information and Advisory Center for Culture in 2023, Prague National Theater was the most visited theater in Czechia. Prague Castle was the most visited monument, and the National Museum was the most visited in the museum category. With at least 447 active museums and galleries in Czechia, more people visited historical monuments throughout 2023 than in the previous year.

What Praguers Loved About Their City 

According to the TimeOut survey, Praguers praised their city for its stunning architecture from Gothic towers and arch bridges to dozens of castles. The city according to the locals quizzed, is an outdoor museum.

Many of the respondents appreciated the good looks of Prague. Besides, they were also happy that 鈥榳alking around鈥� is part of the city鈥檚 cultural adventure.

More than the appearance, Praguers commended their city as a hub for performing arts. Locals cited the deep-rooted city opera heritage, classical concerts, and venues like the National Theatre as strong support systems for the city’s vibrant arts scene.

In the TimeOut poll, Prague also scored the highest for affordability. Respondents admitted that many of the cultural activities, facilities, and art centers were affordable and not very costly for locals and visitors to enjoy.

Giving an opinion about the ranking, the publication鈥檚 local contributor Yaren said, 鈥淭here’s always something going on in Prague, no matter what season. In spring, classical music lovers enjoy the Prague Spring International Music Festival. In summer, the picturesque Letn谩 Park hosts the circus and theatre festival Letn铆 Letn谩, and the Metronome Festival brings together musicians from all over the world.
