Prague’s Jewish Museum is urging visitors to experience its powerful Holocaust memorial this summer. The Pinkas Synagogue houses the memorial, and offers a unique and emotional glimpse into one of history’s darkest chapters.

The Jewish Museum in Prague is highlighting its Holocaust memorial in the Pinkas Synagogue. 80,000 Czech and Moravian Jews who died during World War II are honoured at this site.

Summer time is the ideal time to visit but the memorial is open year-round. of course, the longer days allow more time to reflect on the exhibits.

Why is it Important?

“Understanding our past is key to shaping our future,” said Jana Novak, a museum guide. “This memorial helps us remember those who were lost and teaches important lessons about tolerance.”

Inside the memorial:

Names cover the walls from floor to ceiling, this is the first space that confronts the visitors. Each name represents a Jewish victim of the Nazi regime. Creating a powerful visual impact are the dates of birth and deportation accompany most names.

“It’s overwhelming to see so many names,” said Tom Smith, a tourist from London. “It really hits home how many lives were lost.”

.

A unique children’s exhibit:

Upstairs, visitors find a touching display of children’s drawings from the Terezín ghetto. These colourful sketches offer a glimpse into the lives and dreams of young Holocaust victims.

“The children’s artwork is heartbreaking but important,” Novak explained. “It shows their humanity in the face of unimaginable circumstances.”

Looking ahead:

The Jewish Museum plans to add digital elements to the memorial, allowing visitors to learn more about individual victims’ stories.

“By visiting the Pinkas Synagogue, you honour their legacy and help ensure such tragedies never happen again.” said David Cohen, museum director.

The Pinkas Synagogue memorial is included with Jewish Museum tickets. Visitors are advised to set aside at least an hour to fully experience this moving tribute.
