Kevin Garnett Reckons That Wembanyama Will Thrive Playing For The Spurs
One of the most anticipated draft prospects in sports history, Victor Wembanyama will be joining a lucky team come June 22, 2023, when the NBA draft takes place.
Victor鈥檚 hype has been growing day by day especially after the May 16, 2023 draft lottery saw the San Antonio Spurs win the first overall pick in the upcoming draft.
With that in mind and Victor projected to be the first overall pick, San Antonio looks like Victor鈥檚 possible destination.
The news of San Antonio Spurs winning the NBA draft first pick brought joy to the city and the entire basketball world with that being a synonymous step to rebuilding a team that has been struggling for some time now.
Since the retirement of their star player, Tim Duncan, the Spurs have failed to find significant success with their last playoff appearance coming in 2020.
Breathing new life into the franchise with Victor Wembanyama being the saviour will mean a revolution for the team, not only on the court but also its national view and resuscitation of the entire San Antonio economy.
Wembanyama is also excited to be joining the San Antonio Spurs and is already planning to help them win a ring ASAP when he joins them.
Wembanyama was asked what the Spurs will get when they pick him in an interview with ESPN shortly after the Spurs won the top overall pick.
He responded, 鈥� Aah, you know鈥� team player, I am gonna make everything to win as many games as I can and I am tryna win a ring ASAP so be ready.鈥�
So much is expected from the French phenom and coming in with expectations and all eyes on him, Wembanyama is expected to perform instantly.
Most people believe that Wembanyama will get his footing at the Spurs at least instantly and this has been seconded by Celtics legend.
Talking on KG Certified Podcast alongside Tony Allen, Kevin Garnett had praise for the San Antonio Spurs franchise for shaping players into some of the best players in the league.
The Spurs are hailed to have moulded Tim Duncan and David Robinson to some of the most sorted talent in the NBA which led to all the five rings the Spurs won since their establishment.
Garnett and Allen agree that San Antonio Spurs will provide the perfect condition for Wembanyama to achieve his potential in the NBA.
Kevin Garnett says,鈥� They have a very very very deep winning culture in its habits. I think this kid, Victor, is like you said, man. Perfect Situation. San Antonio is like a big, small city. I think he’s gonna learn quick. 鈥�
Victor Wembanyama will undoubtedly prosper in a city like San Antonio where basketball is a significant societal force, as stated by Kevin Garnett and Tony Allen.
San Antonio does not have the same amount of potential distractions, such as nightlife, as other cities, which could be harmful to athletes.
Wembanyama will be greatly inspired by the five championships won by the Spurs, which define their legacy and would work even harder to carve his legacy.
Garnett agrees that San Antonio is perfect for Wembanyama and his being a part of their basketball-centered society will surely lead him to his destined greatness.
