The Premier League Hall of Fame: Great Legends in Contest

Fans’ vote wins the Day!

Earlier this week, the Premier League announced that Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger had become the first managers to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, and three of the shortlisted players will join 16 others who have previously been honored.

Speaking after being inducted in the Hall of Fame, “I’m truly delighted to be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame,”  Former Man Utd Boss said after his own induction “It’s an honor when you receive recognition like this. However, it’s not just about me as a person. It’s about the job at Manchester United and the bond we had over many years, so I’m also proud of the club, the staff, and my players.

“My job was to send the fans home happy. United’s history and my own expectations were the things that drove me, and I then had to try to develop all my players with the same expectations and make sure we could go out and achieve them.

“I feel Arsene is a very worthy inductee as he transformed Arsenal Football Club fantastically,” Ferguson added. “They became a tough team to compete with and we both wanted to win, which motivated us further. Through the years since retirement, we’d go for dinner together in a little restaurant he knows well in Switzerland. He is a really interesting man and I enjoy his company, but it is still my job to pick the wine!”

The Premier League Hall of Fame was established in 2021, with eight players entered that year, followed by another eight a year later.

This is the third year that players will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry were among those chosen to the inaugural group in 2021, with Didier Drogba and Peter Schmeichel joining them in 2022. Ferdinand and Neville are two of six former Manchester United players in the running. Nemanja Vidic, Michael Carrick, Andy Cole, and ex-Manchester United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen have all been nominated.

Fans can vote for the three players they wish to see in the Hall of Fame, but only if they retire before the start of the year. The winners will be announced on Wednesday, May 3rd.

When does voting close?

Voting is open until 18:00 BST on Monday 10 April, with the three inductees to be announced on Wednesday 3 May.

How are players shortlisted?

Entry onto the shortlist takes into account the Premier League career statistics of players who meet the Hall of Fame selection criteria, and voting data from previous Hall of Fame shortlists in 2021 and 2022.

Career achievements considered include individual and team honors, and a player’s total Premier League appearances, goals, assists, and clean sheets.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for this year’s Premier League Hall of Fame, players must have retired by 1 January 2023, and only a player’s Premier League career is considered in their candidacy, not their performances in other competitions during the Premier League era.

What do the inducted players get?

Each inductee will receive a personalized medallion, engraved with the year of their induction, and a £10,000 donation will be made by the Premier League to a charity of the player’s choice.
