Rail travelers across the Czech Republic can celebrate The Telegraph’s April 2024 ranking and rating for Europe鈥檚 best countries for train travel. Czechia secured the third-best position across Europe.

According to The Telegraph survey, 15 largest European countries open to travelers at the time of the research were involved. Some factors considered were the rail network size of a country and the punctuality of train services. Also, the available sleeper journeys, standards of stations, affordability, and the scenic experience of train travel were more comparison factors.

Moreover, every country was rated against a 60-point score. The Czech Republic scored 40 points. The Telegraph cited Czechia鈥檚 performance to its extensive railway network, scenic journeys, and great punctuality,

“With 5,863 miles of track and a surface area of around 30,450 square miles, the Czech Republic has the second-highest railway density in the world (after Switzerland). More than a third is electrified. Punctuality is much better than in Germany and the fact that Czechs are heavy users of their network suggests they trust and rely on it,鈥� wrote The Telegraph.

Additionally, report applauded Czechia鈥檚 top-notch train stations and dining cars. The beauty of the train stations across the country including Prague Main Station, was also praised.

The Telegraph commented: “Prague’s Main Train Station looks like a cathedral inside, and the stations at Brno and Pilsen are equally impressive. Austria topped the Telegraph ranking with 43 points. The country stood out for punctuality, scenic quality of travel, and its rail network size. France was second, cited for its beautiful railway stations.

The Telegraph report comes at a time when the Czech Republic and Prague are seeking transformation in rail travel. From infrastructure expansions to increased available train services. One of the recent development is the March 2024 launch of the European Sleeper direct connection from Prague to Brussels. This connection links Prague to four European capitals, Amsterdam, Berlin, Dresden, and Brussels. Besides, the easy access to Prague鈥檚 railway network within the city center is a draw for tourists and locals alike as per other reports.
