For travellers dreaming of the exotic charms of Istanbul, the gateway just got a major boost. Turkish Airlines, the flag carrier of Turkey, is increasing service from Manchester to meet surging demand for summer travel to one of the world’s most alluring cities.

Beginning May 19th 2024, the airline will add a fourth daily flight from Manchester to Istanbul on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. This expands their peak season operation to a full 25 weekly non-stop flights between the two cities.

An East-West Masterpiece

Istanbul is a cosmopolitan crossroads where East and West collide in glorious fashion. With awesome architecture like the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque, a thriving culinary scene and a cultural canvas few places can match. It is no wonder the ancient city is a top draw for global jetsetters.

“Istanbul is incredibly popular with British travellers seeking an unparalleled blend of history, culture and excitement,” said Serhat Gok, Turkish Airlines’ General Manager at Manchester Airport. “Our increased flights give more customers the opportunity to immerse themselves in one of Turkey’s most captivating destinations.”

U.K. Service Boost

The enhanced Manchester schedule is part of Turkish’s broader expansion across the U.K. and Ireland this summer. Four additional weekly flights will commence from both Birmingham and London’s Gatwick Airport. This will give the airline an incredible 112 weekly frequencies between Istanbul and the British capital alone.

The bumped-up service allows Turkish Airlines to capitalise on Istanbul’s growing popularity as an international hotspot. Over 20 million global travellers descended on the city last year, a staggering 25% jump compared to 2022.

With Istanbul’s romantic mystique, melting pot of cultures, and imposing history as lures, it’s clear the Turkish Airways are shrewd to double down on this market darling of a destination.
