In a grand celebration of Turkiye’s rich culinary heritage, the highly anticipated Gastroshow 2024 has kicked off in Istanbul. Organised by the Turkuvaz Media Group in collaboration with the Gastronomy Tourism Association, the event was inaugurated on Thursday 27th, 2024 with an inspiring speech by Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy.

During his address, Minister Ersoy proudly announced that Turkiye’s tourism revenue had surged by an impressive 12% in 2023 compared to the previous year. This remarkable achievement has solidified Turkiye’s position among the top five countries in the world tourism rankings. “Representatives of the gastronomy world are among the real actors of the tourism market and make great contributions to its development.” Stated Minister Ersoy

Turkish Cuisine to the World

The minister also stressed the significance of having Turkiye’s rich gastronomic culture recognized by international organizations. Efforts in this area, initially planned to span six years, were successfully completed in just two, resulting in the inclusion of Turkish cuisine in the prestigious Michelin Guide.

“With the recognition of our culinary richness and creative guidance by an international independent organisation, our claim in gastronomy tourism has been taken to a higher level. Through our efforts and promotional activities, destinations like Istanbul, Izmir and Bodrum are emerging as gastro cities,” Ersoy proudly noted.

Gurkan Boztepe, President of the Gastronomy Tourism Association, touched upon the importance of Anatolia’s food and flavour culture. According to him  “Every guest who comes here is precious to us. This organisation, supported by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Turkuvaz Media, is precious… The key point is that most of our guests are connected to Anatolia.”

Two Days of Engagement

Ceyda Uzman, Printed Media Advertisement Manager and Executive Board Member of Turkuvaz Media, emphasized Turkiye’s rich culinary culture.  Gastroshow 2024, a two-day summit held at the Turkuvaz Media Center, explored a wide range of topics, from Turkish gastronomy to international cuisines, modern Turkish cuisine, street flavours, healthy eating, gastronomic tourism, and culinary arts. 

The event brought together experts knowledgeable in culinary culture, kitchen arts, sustainable agriculture, food waste, the local food movement and more to explore and interpret the world of gastronomy.
