Paris is known as the “City of Love,” but it is much more than just a romantic playground.

There’s plenty to keep whole families entertained, and certainly enough to make it a city break that will inspire children, whether it’s the magnificent Eiffel Tower dominating the skyline or the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo in the Louvre. The French capital brings art, architecture, and history to life in ways that no book or school lesson can.

The city’s small size, in comparison to other European capitals, allows you to walk everywhere, wearing out little legs and working up an appetite for delicious French treats such as croissants, macarons, cheese, and crepes – wherever you go in Paris, you’re never far from an open-air crepe stand serving delicious thin pancakes.

Hotels and apart-hotels are increasingly geared toward family stays, offering special brunches and toys for the youngest guests. Some have swimming pools, which are an excellent way to expend any excess energy at the end of the day. Others can arrange for babysitters, allowing mum and dad to enjoy a romantic evening together.

There’s almost too much to see in one visit. However, if you want to make your children happy and create lifelong memories, this is the place to start.

April and May are ideal months to visit Paris because the weather is pleasant and sunny, and it is less crowded than summer. If you have children attending school in the UK, you might want to take advantage of the Easter holidays or the end of May half-term to take a midweek break, especially since Eurostar prices tend to rise on weekends. October is also a good time of year because the weather is cool and pleasant. There will be fewer tourists in the city, allowing you to enjoy the attractions more peacefully – keep in mind that Paris will host the Olympic and Paralympic Games from July to September 2024.
