It was at ASVEL that he won a Championship. The team surely holds a special place in his heart despite his leaving. The young prodigy acknowledged in a recent interview that after exiting ASVEL last season, he initially had some guilt before retrieving his attention because he was leaving the EuroLeague.

He said it was the right decision and leaving it at that time was the best option. He鈥檚 quoted, “In hindsight, there was no reason to, I actually don’t. Of course, as a competitor, I would’ve liked to taste the European competition a bit more but I made the choice and it was the best choice.”

Some will argue that leaving ASVEL might have left him and Tony Parker at loggerheads but Victor assures everyone that they are on good terms. Talking to First Team, he says, “I know Tony, there’s no animosity between us. I think the media can distort things a little bit sometimes. He knows I have progressed. It’s a different role.”

Looks like Wembanyama made the right decision when he chose to leave the EuroLeague and join the LNB Pro A as it has set him up perfectly to go first overall this year.
