Victor Gets Posterized During FIBA World Cup 2023 Qualifiers

Standing at 7’4” with an 8-foot wingspan, Wembanyama is the ultimate player every team would want in their franchise. Anything you’d want your typical player to have you name it, Victor has that and more.

Dubbed the most hyped prospect since LeBron James, the hype around Victor Wembanyama does not seem to slow down especially now that the NBA draft is just a few days away.

The 2023 NBA draft is slated for June 22, 2023, and teams will be looking to add the newest best talents to their roster. Wembanyma sits at the top of the best players at the moment as he is projected to be the first overall pick.

NBA teams are drooling at the idea of landing the French international and this would mean new talent on the team. Adding Wembanyama to a team is advantageous in so many different ways.

He stands out because of his extraordinary talent and distinctive playing style.
Despite being tall, he has great ball-handling abilities and a quick first step that enable him to outrun the defence and make his shot. His three-point shooting motion is fluid and uncomplicated.

As a result of his stature and mobility when playing defence, he is an excellent rim protector and a force to be reckoned with in passing lanes.

Although the young lad has gotten praise because of his skills and stature, an incident during the FIBA World Cup 2023 Qualifiers game where France played against the Czech Republic says differently.

He was posterized after being pushed back by the opposing centre in the low block in the video that went viral. Following the highlight, fans flooded social media with inquiries about whether Victor would be able to compete defensively with NBA superstars like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid.

Although France won the game 72-59 with Victor finishing with 22 points, 17 rebounds, 4 steals and 6 blocks the major highlight of the game left fans wondering if Wembanyama can defend.

Victor’s build has been scrutinized for some time now, many pointing it out as his major weakness going to the NBA. Some think that bulking up would be the most effective way to sustain him in the intense NBA atmosphere.

Regardless of everybody’s comments, Wembanyama’s camp is confident that Victor will be able to adapt to playing the NBA with his build and it is not a matter of concern at the moment. His Agent Bouna Ndiaye emphasized not adding up mass too fast because it might be detrimental to the young athlete.

In an interview with ESPN, Bouna said;” The weight will come over time, you know, but the focus on weight is — it’s a mistake. I’m 100 per cent sure on that.”

This only leaves us wondering if Victor will be forced to bulk up fast to avoid humiliation or if he will adjust his playing style to require less defending.

Despite all these, the teams with the highest draft pick probabilities are all counting on landing him and perhaps they might have a plan for him. At the moment the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets all hold the highest percentage at 14% of getting the first overall pick.

The order of the pick will however be decided on May 16 when the Draft lottery happens and teams will find out the order in which they will select their draft pick.

Wherever Victor ends up we will be watching to see how he adapts to the much intense NBA.
