Wembanyama Not Attending Draft Combine

Wembanyama is the highest draft prospect since LeBron James and we all can agree to that as seen by all the buzz surrounding him.

LeBron had the same hype and as we all know, he went on to have one of the most decorated careers ever to eventually attain the moniker ‘King’.

Will Victor do the same when he gets selected first overall come June 22, 2023?
It is just a matter of time before we find out but that is a story for another day.

Despite being the prospected number one draft pick, we won’t be seeing Wembanyama in the USA soon as he is set to miss the NBA Draft combine.

The multi-day event is set to begin on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, and to Thursday, May 18, 2023, before the annual June NBA draft will be without the projected number pick. This is not good news for scouts and executives who were hoping to see the 7’4” prodigy hoop at least once.

It is however good news for the Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92 who are set to have a strong finish of the season in the LNB Pro A.

Wembanyama will not be able to attend the draft combine because the season is not complete in France as the last game is set to be played the same day the Draft combine begins.

Boulogne-Levallois is set to face 8th-placed Paris in what would be the season-closing game for the team and Wembanyama as he is set to join the NBA.

A recent list released by NBA featuring 78 players who will be attending the Microsoft Surface NBA Draft Combine 2023 missed Wembanyama’s name in it.

Some notable names on the list include Ignite’s Scoot Henderson and Brandon Miller. The Combine is set to attract many people as the new league entrants showcase their prowess on the court. It will be hosted in Chicago, Illinois.

Athletes attend by invite only and Victor did not get an invite because of his scheduled game on the day it starts.

The player’s performance at the combine can have an impact on a player’s reputation, draft position, earnings, and ultimately, career. Wembanyama will be missing out on that but the World already knows who he is.

His reputation precedes him as he is already established getting to the NBA and hopefully, he will be able to live up to the hype.

Fans and shareholders who had already prepared to attend the NBA combine will be disappointed to hear the news but it is what it is, we will just wait to see him go head-to-head with opposing teams in the NBA.
