Wembanyama: 鈥淚f I was never born, I think he would deserve the first spot”

The NBA draft keeps getting closer and two names keep getting familiar as the respective top picks in the draft, Victor Wembanyama and Scoot Henderson. Victor is projected to be the unanimous first pick in the June 22, 2023 draft and Henderson comes in a close second.

These two titans first locked horns with their respective teams as Wembanyama represented the Metropolitans 92 of the LNB Pro A while Henderson represented NBA G League Ignite of the NBA G League. They showed nothing but greatness whereby each of them shined in their own right.

Wembaynama dropped a masterclass of 36 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Metropolitans 92 to a 112-106 victory against Ignite in exhibition game 2. Scoot Henderson also shone by dropping 28 points and 5 rebounds to lead Ignite to a 115-112 win over the Metropolitans 92 in game 1. All these games presented strong performances from both Wembanyama and Henderson and it is speculated that competition will continue getting stiffer once they get to the NBA.

Both contenders are aware of what each one posses and they have had nothing but praise for one another. In an interview, Henderson said;鈥� People always try to compare and contrast whoever. I don’t look at it like that, I look at it as two good ballplayers.”

On the other hand, Wembanyama also recognized the massive talent Scoot Henderson possesses as he said; 鈥淥ut of all the prospects I’ve heard about in our class, I think he’s my favourite one. I think he’s the most reliable that I’ve seen. He’s really a great player.”

Wembanyama adds; 鈥� If I was never born, I think he would deserve the first spot.鈥� Looks like Wemby feels responsible for being so good that Scoot is forced to settle for second best.

In a separate interview with GQ, Henderson is confident of being the first pick in the upcoming draft. He said; 鈥淵eah, I think I should go one, I know I’m gonna be one.鈥�

This comes amid speculations from senior NBA executives who talked to Hoopshype that even though Wembanyama will be drafted first, Scoot Henderson will have a better overall career and will outlast Wembanyama in the league.

Quite a bold prediction from him but we will have to wait and see how things fair.

Victor Wembanyama does not seem to slow down any time soon, Scoot Henderson is still on an upward trajectory and fans cannot contain the excitement of seeing them getting to the NBA as fast as possible. The idea of the two locking horns once again as NBA players is something that everyone is looking up to and how that fares remains a mystery that we will have to wait for come June 22, 2023, the 2023 Draft day.
