Getting to the NBA is one thing but thriving in it is the uphill task rookie NBA players go through. Not once have we seen top prospects struggle in the NBA that usually comes after they had a spectacular time in universities and colleges.

Take Chet Holmgren who was picked 2nd overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder and everybody was expecting him to live up to the expectations.

Wembanyama is however unfazed by all the pressure that the NBA is going to place on him.

Well at only 19 years old, Victor is expected to be a saviour when he gets drafted to a team come June 22, 2023, when the 2023 NBA draft happens.

Wembanyama has been dubbed a generational talent with his hype being compared to that LeBron James got when he was getting to the NBA.

Victor being projected to be the first overall pick in the draft is a no-brainer, the lad is 7 ‘4 ” has an 8-foot wingspan and shoots accurately from the 3-point arc.

However, he is well-known for both his talent and his playing manner in general. Victor will undoubtedly find it simpler to complete some tasks that other players cannot due to his alien-like height.

Despite his tall stature, he can outrun the defence and make the shot thanks to his strong ball-handling abilities and quick first step. Beyond the arc, his shooting is accurate and deadly.

His height and speed make him a powerful rim protector and a defence to beat on the defensive side.

When NBA teams look at all these and his already established reputation in France, they are salivating at the idea of landing him.

Who wouldn鈥檛 want to get Wembanyama?

The buzz and desire might be appealing but the pressure that comes with it is what makes the whole ordeal scary. Teams will be counting on him to 鈥榮ave鈥� them.

The top teams with the highest chance of getting the first overall pick at 14% which comprise Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets all finished the regular season with the worst records in the Eastern and Western Conferences of the NBA.

Any of them getting first overall pick will be an arrival of somehow a saviour. The rookie will be expected to lead them to glory immediately and if they don鈥檛 get that it is somehow deemed a failure. In most cases, it is either hit or miss for the prospect but most have fared well.

LeBron James lived up to the pressure with an endless resume of accomplishments, he is NBA’s leading scorer, 4X NBA MVP, 4X NBA Finals MVP, 4X NBA Champion and 19X NBA All-star.

That is a pretty good resume and since the hype Victor is getting now has been compared to that LeBron got, somehow everybody expects him to match these records if not surpassing them. Anything else again will be deemed a failure.

On the other hand, Victor is confident in himself and thinks that at the highest stakes that鈥檚 where he shines the most.

In a post from New York Times about Victor鈥檚 interview last October, Wemby said,鈥� It鈥檚 just something that鈥檚 inside of me that鈥檚 always been there. It could be basketball or just a card game. Under pressure, I鈥檝e been twice as good.鈥�

Such great poise from Wemby getting to the NBA and with such confidence he will for sure succeed. The NBA is known for being high-stakes, especially during playoffs and this will be a test for Victor when he finally gets here.

Waiting for Draft Day, it is just a matter of days before we see where Victor lands and if he will be able to live up to the hype and handle the pressure well, we will just have to wait and see.
