As summer approaches, Londoners can look forward to the annual tradition of pop-up outdoor cinemas and rooftop film screenings across the city. Whether you’re a fan of classic movies or eager to catch the latest releases, there are plenty of options to enjoy open-air screenings during the summer of 2024.

Rooftop Film Club, a prominent player in the summer cinema scene, is set to return with its popular screenings on the rooftops of the Bussey Building in Peckham and Roof East in Stratford. The club’s lineup features a mix of beloved classics such as “10 Things I Hate About You,” “Pulp Fiction,” “Jurassic Park,” “Fight Club,” “When Harry Met Sally,” and “Pretty Woman,” alongside new releases including “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer.”

Moviegoers can indulge in a variety of food and drink options available from well-stocked bars and carefully selected food vendors. In Peckham, Share a Slice pizza and traditional cinema snacks will be on offer, while Roof East in Stratford will feature a selection of food traders. Attendees are reminded to keep noise to a minimum during screenings.

The Peckham venue boasts an LED screen, allowing for daytime as well as evening screenings. This provides an opportunity for more family-friendly daytime showings during weekends and school holidays, with films like “Wonka,” “Ratatouille,” and “Elemental” already announced for this year. Additionally, Peckham welcomes well-behaved canine companions to its screenings, making it a dog-friendly venue (please note that only assistance dogs are allowed at Roof East).

Both venues offer a limited number of wheelchair spaces, so advance booking is recommended for those requiring accessibility accommodations. Selected open captions screenings will also be available, featuring captions throughout the film for the benefit of Deaf or hard of hearing audience members.

For those looking to enjoy free outdoor film screenings, the open-air festival Summer by the River will be returning to London Bridge City, with The Scoop hosting screenings on Tuesday evenings. The lineup includes classic and family films such as “The Lost Boys” on June 11, “Barbie” on June 18, and “Back to the Future” on July 16. Given the popularity of the free screenings, attendees are advised to arrive early to secure a good viewing spot.

Throughout the festival area, attendees can explore pop-up bars and street food vendors, offering a wide array of choices for cinema snacks and refreshments. With an abundance of cinematic offerings and a vibrant atmosphere, London’s summer cinema scene is set to provide entertainment for film enthusiasts of all ages.”
